Damn Remote

Rode the scoot to work this morning. wife texted me and said , "bring home dinner that she would pay ". Well what would you do ? So I stopped at the local pub and got dinner on the way home. Walked out to the scooter and packed everything away and hopped on the scoot. When I did this the scooter alarm went off and kept going like I was stealing my own scoot. Nothing would stop the alarm but the alarm button on the remote. I ended up removing the battery and called my wife to come and get me. I went home and got the trailer, went back , got the scoot and took it home. Make a long story short , I went in the house an hour later and got the other remote and Wa La , this one worked . What Happened ? Does the remote have a battery ?

I have had my 250 scoot for over three years now and never use the remote for anything. It is just hanging on my key chain doing nothing. I played with the idea when the scoot was new but decided to never use it. From what I just saw is that it could still go dead and leave me stranded some place. Or is that only if I had used it to shut down the scoot.
Maybe I should figure out how to disable the electronic thing before I get trapped.
Any comments or suggestions? .

OK, it seems that I am not the only one not using the remote. Does that mean I am free of being trapped somewhere if the remote goes dead or whacko? How about not doing anything? Future chance of getting caught somehow? Is it safe enough as is to just leave alone or should I look up the way to eliminate the control box on the scoot.
I saw some opinions like mine about not using the remote. But wonder about the long range problems of not using it and still having the control box active in the scoot. .

I guess 5 yrs is not long enough not using the remote and all of the guts is still on the scoot. I just turn the key to start and stop. Works great.. it is up to you about removing the alarm and remote start features. I have over 10,000 miles on the scoot.

Thank you for your comment. With your record I do nothing for now. Anymore reports of being trapped with a whacko lock system and the remote box comes off. .

Got to tell ya one thing. I'm not riding the scoot to work until I get a battery for the broken remote. I'll check out the size of battery and head to Wally-World to get another one. Just hope I got a small enough Phillips screw driver to take it apart.

It is a cool idea...but not very practical. It seems to have built in probs and that is why I leave my remote in the home. Life Is Good...

When I first bought my Tank in 2006 the alarm system kept running down my battery so I disabled it per JR's instructions on the forum. My new SYM has a 'kill' switch under the seat that disables everything. The first time I used it I forgot about it when I tried starting it after work and almost ran the battery down before I remembered. I doubt if I'll ever use it again at work but when I stop downtown or at the grocery store it will definitely be used.
