Seldom get to go riding these past two years that I have owned my Chinese built by Jonway imported by Roketa MC 54 250 with a vertical 244cc engine. I too often have been put on various pills and had some surgeries that preclude riding on public roads with my scoot.
I was out today riding around the town I live in now. I bought the scoot new while living in Colorado. Did the suggested tear down and started fixing things. Many were easy to fix but a couple just seem to be forever.
We had to move from Colorado to Arizona to avoid oxygen problems from the altitude in Colorado. I am now 5,000 ft lower but still at 1,200 ft above sea level. That seems to have been a good move for me.
In AZ I again took all the covers off and continued to try to fix a problem with leaking gas. Have had fuel level gauge out several times. But this time I noticed what seemed like gas leaking through the gauge itself. Replacing the gaskets several times did no good. So I scraped all the yellow looking stuff off the outside of the gauge where it enters the tank. Replaced that with a good coating of fuel proof black RTV. Several months now and no more gas slowly leaking out and making drip marks on my garage floor.
If it comes back I will buy a new gauge to replace my leaking mess.
I will keep on trying to ride. But at my age I may need to switch to a 3 wheel ride. Something that will allow me to ride low cost and independent but not have to worry about weight, or maintaining balance.
Two years and today I have driven the mileage to 128 miles total. I will try to get more on it this summer. Hope the doctors don't mess with my stability and responses with more of those nasty drugs that are disabling in them selves.
Summer is coming and I hope you all will have some nice rides too.

You got it bobf, Trade or sell that puppy in and get yourself a Trike, I love mine and like you tried even a little moped thinking I could easly get on it. But I had to bend way over the handlebars to get my leg over the center frame work. Then getting off was a chore as well not to mention when stopping I had to make sure I leaned it to the right to balance and hold it up, not good. I sold it within 3 months and then searched for something better and found the ICE BEAR TRIKES, never looked back(HEHE). It is a pleasure just sitting on it like sitting in the rec room watching TV, no balancing act no leaning making turns you drive them like you would a car just sit and twist the throttle. Alleyoop

Good luck and good riding ,bobf, warmer weather is on the way,we already got an avalanche of Harleys and other big bikes zooming around the countryside ,trying to bring on spring ...I was going to start getting my scoot ready this weekend but high winds and rain have sorta put a damper on my plans, but weatherman promises better conditions today and tomorrow so maybe I can get on for a little jaunt..as for trikes,a lot of older folks around here have the Honda Goldwing trikes, and a few of the Cam-Am Spyders are in service ...good looking ride--my problem, just too expensive for me so I gotta stay with my Roketa MC 54 250 B 2 wheeler...thinking like you ,maybe soon I can afford a 3 wheel Icebear..anyhow,riding weather is here, ours is about the same as JR"S and I know he is ready to ride too..good luck and good riding ,bobf..

Bobf, hang tight!! I am 77, fortunate to not be in too bad a shape, but my knees are shot. I have a 09 Icebear trike fondly known as IckyBear that has been a life saver for me. I use it daily to get around my place, down the hill to the mail box, stuff like that. Getting a trike is not a bad idea for you. I have a sidecar rig and a couple of two wheelers that I ride on the local roads shopping, stuff like that.
