not how many wires in the plug ! there should be a plug , and then bullet connectors (how many bullet connectors) we will have to wait till you can look and give us a definate answer .

Ok, I am on the site HOW MUCH DID the CDI COST, that will pin point which one you have and I can put up a picture of what you bought. Or if you know what # they gave it. Alleyoop

Your welcome mototech, glad to have you. The wires coming from the engine will be of course the harness for the charging system which we are not worried about and the wire/s to the CDI.
TV on the 250's there are no bullett connectors that you are familiar with on the 50 and 150 scooters and I know what he's talking about on the plug.
The blue wire (possibly with a yellow stripe) is the pulse or pickup coil wire and of course the green is ground. What would be most helpful mototech is if you could just give me the number of wires on the CDI itself and the colors, this would verify what I need to head you in the right direction of testing and also confirm that you have a side stand cutoff switch.

Here is a picture of a CDI with the wires plugged into it: This is a typical AC cdi on 50s and 150s. Alleyoop

Does the ac cdi type stator have 3 wires? Mototech all stators produce AC and I think you're confusing the two functions of the stator. Refer back to the wiring diagrams I posted on the 1st page. One function of the stator is for charging of the battery and light supply voltage. It has nothing at all with the igintion or the running of the engine. This part of the stator can be totally bad and if the other function/s of the stator is fine the scooter will run. The other part of the stator deals with the CDI or ignition firing of the engine. It will be one of two types AC or DC but don't confuse the DC system to think the stator puts out DC voltage to supply the CDI, not so. If the CDI is a DC type then the supply voltage comes from the battery only. On the DC powered CDI system though you will still have one wire coming form the engine stator and that's the pulse or pickup wire. This wire when the flywheel magnet passes the coil timed correctly simply sends a very low AC electric pulse the the CDI telling it to fire. ON a AC powered CDI you still have the same pulse signal wire AND another coil on the stator sends AC vlotage to the CDI as it's supply voltage rather than a DC voltage from the battery. Again if you'll tell me the number of wires on your CDI and the colors I'll tell you which system you have and even a picture of the CDI will help. Can't diagnose your problem until that is known, guesiing will only hurt the process. Also as I said this scooter is supposed to have a side stand safety switch and verifying that helps also because a faulty switch can kill the spark. The 3 yellows are for charging only and the green is a common ground for everything on the scooter. JR

Another easy way to determine if it is a AC OR DC powered CDI, IN the CDI PICTURE above SEE THE RED/BLACK wire on the 2 PLUG SIDE of the CDI. TURN THE KEY ON and Take your VOLT METER and test it IF IT IS DC it will REGISTER 12V+ because it is coming from the battery. If nothing it is a AC system and you need an AC CDI. IF it registers VOLTS it is a DC system and you need a DC CDI. Alleyoop

Alleyoop the cdi i bought is a #20. I was told it was a ac cdi. I think the price was 9.99. The number #14 i believe is a dc cdi. And as far as the two wire plug on the cdi there is no black and red.

Ok, I think they are wrong they are saying that the SMALLER CDI is a DC CDI and that the BIGGER CDI is a AC CDI. I think they have it backwards. Normally a DC CDI is bigger than a AC CDI. But any way, I labled and pointed to the WIRE that you say is BLACK and the one above it is BLACK and WHITE which would be your KILLSWITCH WIRE. So turn the KEY ON and CHECK the BLACK WIRE for Voltage. If it registers voltage you NEED a DC CDI. Alleyoop

I think im getin somewhere lol. Alleyoop i checked the wire and it does have 12 volts. Justbuggin i removed the black/white wire and still no spark. Im going to send this ac cdi back and get a dc cdi. Ill let yall know what happens.

JR im not sure on the wire color on the cdi i will have to look tomorrow. On the 2 wire plug its a black/white and black wires. The others are blue, green/white and not sure of the other. black/white = handle bar kill switch black wire = 12Vdc supply voltage Now we know we have 12Vdc it's for sure a Dc system. Also since you pulled the black/white we know it's not grounded out............there. But now before you send it back we have another wire you mentioned green/white = side stand safety switch. This switch acts just like the kill switch wire in the fact it grounds out the CDI when the scooter is on the center stand. If this switch is shorted out or closed with the scooter off the side stand then NO SPARK. Blue or (blue/yellow) = pulse or pickup coil and should read 0.5 to 2.5Vac with the engine turning over. The other wire should be the black/yellow = coil voltage feed wire. Pull the green/white and check for spark. JR
