So yesterday I was reattaching my windshield on my JCL-MP250a after having the front cowling off, and when I went to reinstall the six mounting screws, I ran into a problem.

The windshield is mounted using 6 screws attaching to rubber grommets which hold a small nut in the end. In essence, the windshield 'floats' on these grommets. Well, all but one rubber piece dry-rotted enough to lose the nut on the other end. Therefore, I can't get the screws in. I did get one in enough to catch, and used large zip ties for the rest. Along with the cover, it's held on tight. But, I want to put in the correct replacements.

Has anyone found these rubber pieces anywhere, or come up with an alternative?

We ran into the same problem with my 250B. My husband used bolts the same size with nuts and rubber washers along with a couple of flat washers. It's a pain to work your hands into the tiny spots, but it can be done.

I used some hallow wall anchors...

I do not use any rubber washers or anything I just screw down the windshield 3 on each side and I have the 29" tall Givi Windshield on mine.

bhinch, I like the idea, but don't they destroy the plasticwork?

Sugarscoot, I'll probably use something like yours. Once I get the cowling back off, I'll glue on some nuts. It won't handle a ton of torque, but much more than the rubber ones did.

Wheez I used the same thing that B did on one of my scoots. I think I flattned the spikes a bit to keep it from tearing up the plastic.

Yamaha does the rubber's and also uses nylon screws, 6 of them. They claim the idea is to save the windshield from breaking if you drop the bike. I broke the nylon screws and went to metal screws. On the nylon ones, the head strips. On dropping a bike if the screws either pop out or break off the windshield might survive!

Thanks, come to think of it, I have a ton of those very fasteners in a storage crate. Might have to dig 'em out.

I can understand stifling everyday vibrations, but if I drop the bike, the windshield will be the least of my worries.

You can also actually get those rubber grommets at Lowe's in their hardware section in their specialty fastener drawers. They are along with the plastic wing nuts and plastic bolts. I did the nuts and washers too (not too fun) like sugerscoot and when I went into Lowe's for something else I found them there. They're pretty cheap. I actually went back and replaced my nuts and bolts that I had already done with new rubber grommets. So much easier.

had the same issue on my XB-700Li, and my BMS TBX 260 EFI. I generally put the best screws in the most important places, like the edges near the dashboard, and front.
The bad screws somewhere in the middle.
If it is too tight, switching the screws could help (what does not fit in one hole might fit in another). If not, try to unscrew the screw a bit, and use pliers to squeeze the rubber a bit

Also, if it does not fit (and feels like it's falling out), a bit of electrical tape (or duct tape) around the rubber could do miracles!

These are also called well nuts, I get mine at the local Ace Hardware.

What mm would the well nuts be for the mc-54-250b roketa scooter?

I used standard 3/8" OD = about 10mm.
