You know? This used to be a good place to go and get advice and help when your trying to help others. We aren't charging this guy anything near what a "real" shop would, all we want is for this bike to run and leave our shop. The bike has perfect brake lights, perfect blinker lights, but the headlamps and taillamps are dim at startup, then they just fade out to nothing unless you rev the bike up. One last plea for help here before I give up on scooter professor.

Okay, fed up with this stupid bike now. New stator and lights are still dim, as in no brake lights at all, at idle. Barely any taillights with throttle reved. Headlights very dim at idle, brighter on rev but not bright enough. We've changed out every part in the electrical system, checked them all, and everything seems to check out fine. Could someone please tell me the CORRECT way of checking the charging/firing system for this bike? Step by step, for DUMMIES LIKE ME?

John, we have a "donor" bike here that runs fine. We took the regulator off of it and put it on the broke one, no difference. Found only 12 volts on the yellow wire out of the "new" stator instead of the 15 JR says we should have. Just ordered the third stator, this one from a different site. Hoping this fixes it finally.

Okay, problem still not found. Stator seems to be putting out fine, but lights are very dim at idle, brighten up as rpm's rise. Getting frustrated!

Stator charging fine, something in the wires. Chasing it down now. I'm betting we find corrosion and bad connections throughout the bike.

Okay, very and getting We put the new stator on this stupid scooter. Ran FINE!!! Test drove it for at least 5 miles before we called the owner. He drove it home, parked it, got up the next day and it was making an awful noise and wouldn't start. Stator bolts had backed out! Put on yet another, the third, stator, again test drove bike about 5-7 miles, ran great and was charging/firing fine. Owner picks it up, takes it home, parks it. Next morning the lights on the rear won't light up, the front ones are dim! WTH?!!!!! I'm ready to burn this thing! It has over 8k on it, motor smokes, everything's rigged up with duct tape or bailing wire. I think it's time to retire this scoot. What's your opinion guys?

Thanks Alleyoop, I'll get Dwayne to check on that. How did you make out with the Burgman ? John We got him up and running like a top! Sort of. LOL The cel came on, had a transmission code, wouldn't shift by itself so we had to shift it manually. Finally got the time and cash to have the "big boy" scooter place (read dealer) check it out so we took it to them for a test drive and recommendations. On the way there, no cel light and it shifted like new! It sat in their shop for a week, 7 days, waiting for a test drive. We finally went and picked it up on day 8 and he's been riding it ever since. (They did nothing to the bike, not even a test drive)

It was a bad stator! Took the one off the other bike and put it on the sunl, fired right up! Now to try to get a replacement for the other one.

Speaking of the other bike, same 150 style, it's running fine from start to about 3,000 rpm. Then it bogs down (Dwayne's words). Would that be in the valves? He cleaned the fuel system, but the carb can't be soaked due to plastic parts. Could it be something in the cab, ie stopped up? To me, acts more like the valves, kind of like mine did when they got tight.

They were ac JR. :'(Looks like a bad stator. We have another scoot, same style, here for a different problem. We'll pull the stator off of it and see if it cranks up the sunl.

Well, the wires ohm out normal. So back to the start. Bike cranking, stator wires, black/red wire has 9.0-10.0 v while the blue/white has .17 with peaks up to .33. Coil ohms to: Primary .4 and secondary 2.84. Ideas?

Okay, had a quick chat with Dwayne. He's replaced every part of the charging/starting/firing system except the wires. ; Now he's checking them for continuity. Just goes to show, sometimes when you hear hoof beats, it's horses, not zebras! I'll let you know what he finds.

Okay, still nothing new to report, hubby got pulled off onto an intake job on a car yesterday. Back at it this morning, will update with a more complete report once I can get him to sit still for five minutes and explain to me what he's tested, what he's found, and what he plans to do next. Thanks for the help Alleyoop

If so, it's connected to the stator, so yes it was replaced. Brake lights do come on. Checking for ground wire now.

Would the little magnetic box in the lower left be the pick up coil?
