I have had this 2006 Lanhai 260 for about four weeks. It has less than 1400 miles on it. When I got it I went over it completely. Changed the oil, cleaned the air cleaner, topped up the master cylinders, topped up the coolant. Checked brake pads. Checked tire pressure and generally checked all fittings for tightness. I have put about 200 + miles on it, mostly on the highway and so far the temperature gauge only moves about 1/8 -1/4 inch from its off position. It runs very well and the engine does not seem to be overheating. The coolant level is good and after running it for about 25 minutes, the coolant is warm, but not hot. Is this normal??

Dose the fan come on when the temp rises to 1/4 or above?

Today while setting at idle in my driveway for a while the gauge finally rose to about the 1/2 way point and then the fan came on and it stayed just below the 1/2 way point. I believe when ridding it in the cool weather it just never gets to hot. Which is good!

I have the MC-54-250B linhai clone too. I mistakenly thought the temp switch for the fan was blown. I honestly dont much faith in these gauges. However, when you are rising for any distance (20-30 min) does your temp gauge drop and raise again, or is it more of a steady thing? I ask for a reason. The thermostat may not be installed, OR it may be stuck open . Then there is a great chance I am wrong and you just have a stellar example of these scooters

Temp gauge is a way simple thing as far as I know. A single wire runs from the gauge to the temp sensor that plugs into the cylinder head or thereabouts. That sensor provides a VARIABLE ground, changing as the engine coolant heats up, and that variation causes the gauge reading to move up or down.
ERGO: if the gauge sits at the bottom and doesn't move at all, or if it maxes out as soon as the key switch is on, replace the temp sensor, way cheap and way easy to replace. (When I was testing mine, if I grounded that single wire at the sensor end to the block or frame, the gauge would peg, even if the engine wasn't even running.) If the gauge moves at all, whatever the driving conditions, suspect either a faulty gauge or, more likely, faulty electrical connections to the gauge.
SIDE NOTE: whether the fan comes on or not is a completely separate issue involving a sensor that probably plugs into the radiator. Has NO direct relationship or electrical connection to the temp gauge. You do want the fan to kick on when the coolant gets hot, as in roughly 170 plus, so if it does, be happy. If it does not, even when the temp gauge gets into the upper half, check out that sensor at the radiator along with the associated electrical connections. Yours, however, seems to be okay from what you've described.

Now that I am riding with the outside temps in the mid 80's the gauge comes up after about 10-12 min riding to about 1/2 and stays there. If I park it on the center stand after it has warmed up I can hear the fan cycle when it gets to about 1/2 on the temp gauge. Can not really hear the fan when riding. From all the post I see in the scooter forums, I believe I have an exceptional scooter. I bought it about two months ago and it had just under 1200 miles on it. I now have over 1400 miles and have had nothing major happen to it. Just before I purchased it the owner had the engine and transmission fluids changed. Since it had been stored for a while, I replace the front and rear brake fluids and cleaned the "mickey mouse" air cleaner. The tires look new, but with only 1400+ miles I would expect that. I had to replace the windshield due to it being cracked. I found a cool looking luggage rack on the Internet and mounted it to the backrest bar. Have installed a digital clock and a digital voltmeter on the base of the handlebar cover.

The fan on mine is alarmingly loud. It sounds like a polie car siren. The first time it came on on my first test drive, I about messed my pants. I didn't have my MC endorsement yet, no tags and no insurance. Scared the he!! out of me. I did check the fan, and it's the blade design that's so loud. Without the blades it's a very quiet motor.

Gorj, sounds like you got a winner as regards cooling. As to tires, good that they are good, but be prepared for the reality that they'll wear out WAY faster than even the cheapest automotive tires. I got about 7000 out of my first set if I recall correctly. Fact of life, I'm told, different rubber, different driving conditions.

Not to concerned about tires because I will only put about 700 miles on it during the riding season! They may well rot before I wear them out.
