Last week I put in the voltage meter and had success, at least I thought so. Today it looks like a bit of a disaster for my lighting system.

I can turn on the left turn or right turn or both flashing but I can not turn them off. Thinking it might be related to my last weeks success I took off the front covers again. But I can not see any problems with my wiring and disconnecting did not correct my light switch either. So now I wonder if I should be buying a new light switch for the handlebar. Just not sure where to start with this problem so here I am.

I did look up the light switch in the vendors book and it said $40. Not to bad if that is what is the problem.

Any ideas of where to start?

Hey bobf,I had a similar problem with mine...open up the switch and see if the screw is loose ..that's all I got--good luck,fflintstine

If you replace the switch you will need to take it off by taking two screws out from the bottom of the switch,then carefully lift the top part of the switch off,and the little screw is right there.If it is loose,tighten it up and see if that helps...it is a start

Thanks fflintstone, I do remember your post now that I have been reminded. Will try that sometime today and see how that works for my lights.

Thanks a lot for that reminder. First I must restore my volt meter to its working status, then fix the lights. All this right after a doctors visit this morning. I will post my success story right here. I hope.

Should you find you need to replace the handlebar switch assembly, $40 is too much. I got one for around $20, shipping ran it up to $27 or so as I recall. If you decide to go that route, post here and I'll dig out the link; it's been over a year. (Be warned, kinda hard to get at the plugs down under the front plastic. But by now you should be a real pro at pulling all those!)

Well, I just pulled my switch and inside I found four screws. All 4 screws were tight and after I put it back on it still fails to turn off as expected. So I have left, right, or both flashing all the time.

The light switch I have pointed to is from the Rocketa.com etc.

So if you do have a less expensive switch, I would like to hear its source.

Yep, I do have the front cover loose except for the 4 screws at the air screen behind the tire. Did not know you had changed out your switch.

EDIT TO ADD: I just came in from tracing that wire from the switch to under the handle bars to a real wad of wires tied to the front cross bars and whatever. If they terminate at the lights wires it won't be impossible, just a bad word situation to work with. I have not pulled any plugs yet and won't till I have a new on in hand and positioned.

I have looked at some vendors light assemblies for 150 and 250 scooters and they did not look at all like my light switch. So I hope your contacts will be OK.

But sorry, bobf, they've gone through the roof on price. I checked, and almost exactly one year ago I paid $27 and change for this, shipping included.

Yes, it's a simple unplug-plug deal, but first you have to be able to get ahold of the darn plugs. Until I removed plastics, best I could do was put a couple fingers on it, but not enough to do what needed doing. And, by the way, there are TWO plugs, one a nine-pin and the other a two, if I remember correctly. Might not be the same for your scooter.

Thanks for the contact. I will look at that and also my Roketa idea. Maybe theirs has gone up in price too.

It does look very similar so it may do fine. I will see tomorrow when I get time to call and see what is happening.

Ellpee, I finally made my decision. I just ordered the same part that you referenced to me. It cost me $34.95 + 8.95 ship.

Not far off from the Roketa price of $40. Problem with Roketa was three prices shown and I could not get anyone to answer the phone. Maybe closed on Saturdays . Anyway, on the web I was able to find the $40 on the Roketa price list link. Then on another line I got something like $120 with a line drawn through it and a lower price of $80 something shown. So there were three prices shown and no one to talk to. No choices left but for me to go with your offer of help. The picture does look like my switch.

Now I will start to trace that cable and see if I can remove it. There seems to be every wire to every where on the scooter going through that big lump of wires at the steering post and not much space for the hands to do much. Should be a good excersize for my aging joints and fingers.

True dat. That switch cluster does a bunch of different stuff, therefore many wires. If you can simply track down the plugs at the lower end, one nine-pin and one two-pin, and switch them out, all should be good. (CAVEAT: I'm talking about my 2011 Roketa, yours may be different.) When I switched mine I also put in a headlight cutoff switch, which involved only one wire (the white one), but if you now have the Oregon R/R that may be irrelevant for you. It made no real difference for me.

Anyhow, good luck. Sucks that the price went up almost 100%, but wutchagonnedo???

If my cable comes with a 2 pin connector I will have to look for a mating connector or try splicing the wires or try to get the pins out of the two pin connector and put on terminal ends to the two wires so I can join them the way they were. I rather like the job of splicing and the eliminates taking the pins out of the connector and attempting to attach proper connecting ends to the wires from the block and hoping they will accommodate the wires on the scoot. Just have to wait and see what they send me. I hope the wires are long enough for me to work with no matter which way I will have to go.

That is all likely to be next weekend project.

Well, the two-lin connector ON MINE is about the brakes I believe; at the top two separate connectors, but down under the plastic a two-pin female and male situation. All that entirely separate from the nine-pin lashup, which does dim/bright/turn/horn/headlight flasher/yaddayadda. Guessing that's the interrupt that doesn't allow the starter to crank unless you're holding down one brake lever or the other, but it might also be about the brake lights.

I ordered on 28 March 2015 and am still waiting for the cable assembly. It was supposed to be here in 3 to 6 days. Is it time to start a fuss or do you think maybe it well be here next Monday.

Also wonder about how they count the days. From 28 March and include 4 April, that is 8 days. But if you toss out weekends that is only 5 days. Being anxious to ride in some nice weather I am really anxious to get the bike back together before too many of the days are in the 90's.

If it does arrive Monday, that will be the 6th week day. Or total time since ordered, 10 days.

Yes, I am getting impatient.

Don't remember how long mine took, but I do remember that I ordered it twice and was told it was out of stock and on back order, before they finally confirmed shipment on the third try. If they've told you on the FIRST try that it's coming, consider yourself lucky. Maybe they've finally figured out that enough of these things are failing, it pays to have some in stock at all times.

Just sit back in the ol' Barcalounger and visualize cruising down the highway -- well, at least byway -- in another week or two. In the morning, of course, starting to get darn hot out there by lunchtime.

ellpee, just checked my charge card bill for March 5 through April 5 and no charge for the handlebar switch that I have been waiting for.

So far I have sent two different emails and today 2 different calls to their service folks. No response from the emails or the phone calls. Maybe a phone call tomorrow, I hope.

I don't know why they sent me that invoice statement that made it look like they had sent the item. If I knew how to cancel the order I would and then source from some place else. Might have to pay a higher price but at least I might have it on and running.

You said you had talked to them. Did you call to the number shown on the computer order page? If so, that was the number I had used. 618-529-2593 Twice today and both times a recording came on and said they were too busy so just leave your message and number for them to call.

Sure would like to clear this up soon.
