I have just picked up a zuma 50 and would like some insight on the best order in which to upgrade parts for speed increases. What I was thinking was to start with a new CDI but my expertise is in automobiles not 2t engines, many thanks and please keep in mind that I am financially challenged

I would start with the CVT area with variator changes from rollers to sliders, then look at possibly up-jetting the carb and more air with a filter change.

If you could recommend some reliable brands that wont break my tiny piggy bank. Also would you suggest I tune my variator or just go ahead and buy a over drive as I will be doing plenty of mods just going to be a slow process. After thought... the guy I bought the scoot from is using yamalube, what brand do you prefer for performance and engine wear?

IMO the CDI and air filter will be a waste of your time and money. It's always a good idea to get the carb and CVT in tune, and I like using sliders instead of rollers in the variator. The Zumas I've been around were in a good state of tune in stock form though, so I'm not sure that you'll get much for your efforts with just jetting and swapping weights or springs. If you plan to do other mods, you'd prob be better off waiting to tune it until then.
Your biggest gains in power will come from a tuned pipe and/or a big bore kit. The Zuma also has very deep final drive transmission gears, so to see high speeds you will probably need to do a gear swap.
If you stick with the stock oil injection system, most big name 2T oils intended for injection will work. Preferably synthetic or semi-synthetic.

Good to know, I will just purchase upgrades as I can afford them and just have all the pieces in place for when I do the BBK. As far as the pipe goes I know leovince is great but they are pricey, is there a nice alternative with the expansion chamber design that I could get cheaper, I just had to drop $850 for the scoot and then a new battery so the wife is probably getting tired of scooter money I did order a NGK BPR8HIX iridium plug, that should be okay on a stock tune right?

Most of the good pipes will be similar in price to the LV or more, but you can keep an eye on eBay or if there are many scoots in your area maybe craigslist for a used pipe. The ZX or ZX-R is good for most street and sport builds. The SP3 or GP won't make as much power at higher revs as the ZX, but they're a bit more stealthy.

Well I thiink I will just have to wait a couple weeks then and get the LV, what is the difference between the zx and the zx-r? Also an update I have successfully done the headlight mod thanks to the awesome people here and sharing their wisdom Also have installed silverstar zxe headlight bulbs, its daylight now but at idle you can see a difference in the intensity compared to cruising rpms. They are the same wattage as the oem 55/60 I am just hoping there wont be a current drain issue if I am scooting around town.

x_xWhat about final drive gear ratios? Ive been hunting down ways to increase my top speed. At low idle, my bike wont sit still. I have to hold the brake or my bike will take off. (The Power!!) I pulled the motor from a larger 150cc bike and created a monster. The frame is from a lighter bike almost 30+ pounds lighter, blue CDI with short tail pipe, and with proper inflated tires, (12" rear wheel with a 4.00 tire) she will do 57 / 60 all day. Problem is, she get to top speed to fast. Not so much a problem in a lot of areas but the goal wasn't so much a racer, but to be able to do close to 70mph. The goal isn't sustainability, but to know for a short burst, she will fly. The bike minus the blue CDI, custom suspension, and the lighted frame, is stock. I know about the Dr Pully upgrades and roller weights, also I have a custom intake underway. I know they will increase either RPM or sight HP gains somewhere on the map but I want a for sure fire gear upgrade. Im a light driver at 170lbs so there is no problem with weight anywhere on the board, the bike fires down when you give it a squeeze. So far Ive outran 5 original 150cc bikes, 2 times uphill, and each of them cheated with a 3 car lead on the way back and still was able to run them down with ease. Please help me make this bike into all she can be.
