I'm new to the scooter world and was hoping to receive some knowledge on what should I get and where for my needs. With that being said, I am a 240 lb male who needs to travel at least 23 miles a day and will be traveling on highway and suburb areas. Any information will help.

Well at that size you more than likely will fit better to a 250 scooter? You'll be able to cruise better on the highway at 55 to 60 MPH plus have the get up and go when in the city. What are your budget thoughts, lots of scooters to choose from and we're here to help. JR

Think if I were willing to spend that kind of money, I'd be looking at one one the Taiwanese Scoots, at a nearby brick and mortar store. Not only would you get a quality scoot, but i believe a 2 year warranty.
Just one man's opinion

I bought my 250 scoot four years ago and as you say, I was new so I looked at many mail in places and finally chose one that sounded like a business that wanted to stay in business. I am satisfied with what I bought but believe that now I would try to find a nearby live deal that has been around for a while. I paid just below $2,000, I don't remember but think it came in at $1,998. I was younger then, recently retired. Now I am almost 82 and wishing I had a dealer to take it too. At my age I find getting on my knees or lifting things is getting harder to do. I have approached a couple shops and was told I should have bought their products for service. They said they were busy enough with their own customers. So beware. Mail order is cheaper for sure. Just not real sure about my self anymore.

Will second the above. Got my 2011 Roketa cheap, but had some stubborn electrical problems to address initially. Now that it's approaching 7500 miles and has the odd thing needing to be worked on, it's very frustrating that nobody in Tucson, a metro area of close to a million, will even touch a Chinese scooter for anything beyond very basic maintenance. (There are several shops up in Phoenix, but hey, when it's broke in Tucson, how ya gonna get it to Phoenix?)
The only place in town that will do even that is a Kymco (Taiwan) dealer. Kymco has some very nice scooters, but way pricier than Roketa (in the upper $5xxx bracket); at least they would work on the darn things if they break. Honda's equivalents to my Roketa are in the same ballpark. Both of those, I might add, are fuel injected, nice but also more complex.
On the other hand, a lot of things that need fixing on a scooter are not all that difficult if you have a garage full of tools, maybe a motorcycle hoist, and a modicum of mechanical savvy.

I suggest a Linhai Aelous 300 scooter. It will fit all your needs and will come in under your budget. I have just a hair under 9000 miles on mine. It has plenty of power, Looks good and handles like a motorcycle. I love mine.

I agree with RKS. I had 2 Tank (Chinese) scoots from a local dealer who promptly went out of business. The Chinese scoots were OK and quality has improved over the year. However I switched to TGB's made in Taiwan and was pleased with them They are no longer imported. Switched to a Genuine Buddy 170i from a local dealer who can service it. Plus I have a riding pal who has a small dealership and we swap my dog sitting for him in return for free labor. Genuine Buddy is made in Taiwan and in my opinion as quality machines. I understand what Bobf is saying. At 79 my knees are pretty well worn out. Converted my 170i to a trike using a TowPac unit, love it. My riding is all on county roads. If you plan to ride on Xways get at least a 250cc scoot to keep up with traffic. You are getting good advise from every one here.
