I have a 2008 V9 EVO 150 with a GY6 motor. Battery only charges at idle. If I rev motor it stops charging. Any ideas?

It could be a bad voltage Regulator/Rectifier.
Or a worst case scenario:
Just a Guess here, but the stator is a series of strong magnets. - The Flywheel mounts onto a shaft and is secured with a high torque washer and nut.
Now, there's also a woodruff key holding the flywheel in place... But it's possible the flywheel could be slipping at high RPM's if there's damage to the mounting/securing mechanism.

Think I'd start with the regulator/rectifier. It's just behind the chrome panel, on the front of your scooter. Looks like the one in the link. link

Thank you for quick replies. Can regulator be tested or just replace?

On the home page of this forum, scroll down to help files. There is a thread, or PDF, on diagnosis of the charging system.

more than likely the r/r, also if the flywheel was slipping it pretty much wouldn't run at all due to timing issues. if it slipped just a bit and still ran then you would still get the magnets passing the coils and electrical generation because the coils simply dont care where the magnets are as long as they pass over them and whence it would still charge.

Hey Kevin, I just had to deal with a charging system issue on my SunL SL250-2. Mine did the same thing and a new regulator solved the problem. I also found some of my terminals were not tight. You will need to find a male terminal so you can check the fit in the female terminals. They should all be nice and snug. If not, you will need to carefully remove the terminal from the plug and squeeze it carefully with a pliers until they fit together nice and snug. You can buy a terminal release tool or use a paper clip or cotter pin?? Best Luck to ya... Josh (PartsGalore)

It can't be the flywheel because the timing would be so far off...the scoot wouldn't run...
