I am sure that the wind drag on that machine is something else. I put a 5 inch taller windshield on my 250 Reflex and it noticeable reduced my top speed. (I do really like it anyway).

Odd thing about drag on a object. I don't think the drag is caused by forces "inside" the scoot. I think the actual drag is on it's rear. A subtle change in that airflow can reduce drag considerably. _

Sure thing, but do you really think they have a wind tunnel and tested it, I don't think so Alleyoop

Looks like one of those pond skimmer things, or paint it brown & it will look like a turd with wheels. _

Auto Moto is easier to be seen than a motorcycle when you're in a pile of traffic, not sure how top heavy it is in wind conditions. Speed was a negative - not fast enough for my area. 70mph on my county road. I think they are cool. I think Elio's are going to be awesome-just my honest opinion.

My apologies, ybbed if you felt insulted about my comment on the vehicle. It's a good concept auto. Just could use some dressing up on outer suspension. It's a little naked for my tastes. There decades of past design that covered/added to this part. Perhaps lighting somewhere between the wheel & body, or built into the fender? Donno, but it's got potential.
Be kinda cool if they made a small truck or wagon model. _

The Elio looks great.. Hafta see if they meet their specs on it next year when it comes out..
$6800.00 3 cylinder 55HP engine over front wheels. 105 mph 84 mpg 49 city. 3 yr 36000 mile warranty. 2 seats hatchback.. heat and AC. MADE IN THE USA
Cool if they can do it...

Anyone concerned about being top heavy in cross winds, there isn't much for wind to blow against.
& in high cross winds, even a motorcyclist is vulnerable, due to light weight.
It's got its fair share of undesirable features as well. But one don't have much to debate with when purchasing funds are low. ---- There are folks out there that can't afford the cost of Fuel, Insurance, & a loan payment on something like a car/truck.
So finding something like a new dependable low insurance, fuel saving scooter for less than $4k is a step up in keeping/getting to a job, appointments, & getting groceries. In other words a lifeline on travel.
Sometimes it's not just about the ride, it's about the freedom to get to places that one "needs to get to". _

I worked on two of these bikes last summer. I can make the following points:
- center pivots may not lock very well, bike will fall over breaking mirror, center pivot is very difficult to repair - top speed is closer to 50 mph - fuel economy is about 45-50 mpg - handling is stable but sluggish - performance drops dramatically when you add a rear passenger - would perform a lot better with 300cc but that would require a lot more engineering - I never had the rear wheel slippage on dry pavement (I never ride in the rain or on wet pavement) - front and rear seat is comfortable during long rides - windshield has a wiper and washer fluid - decent radio and sound system
Note! You CANNOT drive bike with the pivot locked, you will lose control in a curve
Overpriced at $3500; $2000 negotiable would be more realistic.
Finally, no I would not own one. I prefer 16" two wheel, air cooled 150cc scooters. The AutoMoto is more of a novelty. I do not think they are very durable. Parts are difficult or very expensive to come by.

Crazedfox, how do you like the MP3??? Piaggio has withdrawn them from the American market but I have considered one if they return. As for the Elio, I wont hold my breath. Really like the design but it has been done before, as in the Morgan sports car. If they can deliver in 2015 at the prices they quote it will sell well.

I'm not sure what you mean by MP3, you mean a player or some vehicle? As about the rest I just like to get a test ride on a AutoMoto. So I can make better idea of what to make of one. It just would be nice not to be as wet in the rain, & have little shade in the heat.

Crazedfox, my apologies. I misread and thought you had bought one. I am referring to the Piaggio Mp3 3 wheeled scooter. It features 2 wheels in the front and leans in curves. It was offered in 250, 400, and 500 cc engine sizes. The latter two are real Xway 'scorchers'. When coming to a stop you hit a selector button to lock it in an upright position. When you take off it releases it back to the leaning position in about 6 seconds. Piaggio is still making them but not selling them in the states at the moment. Was not a big seller here but you can find them offered used on craigslist and at dealers where they have been traded in. Hope this clears up the reference to them. The front wheels are set close together.
