A tad dismayed to find that at barely 3000 miles my rear tire is showing significant wear (although the front still looks pretty good). Many, many threads about tires, many, many websites as well. I see what should be reliable brands -- Michelin, Pirelli, etc. -- and others I don't know much about. I'd sure like to get 10k or so minimum out of the replacement, along with reasonably good resistance to road hazards. Heck, the typical vegetation around Tucson is evil enough to poke holes in a tire! All thoughts/advice/recent experience welcome. And secondarily, if I should choose to install the new tire (or at least remove the wheel) myself, are there other things in that whole rear end "module" that I should consider doing at the same time to save labor?

Not likely and if you do find a tire that will hit 10K it'll be hard as a brick and beat your brains out. Average miles on a nice riding tire = 5 to 6k on rear at most. JR

Yeah, heard the same at several tire places today; another lesson learned. Tires that came on the scoot are Yuanxing (transl: Chinese junk); brands I heard on my rounds today were Kenda (moderately priced, reportedly a decent tire); Avon (a bit pricier, reportedly a better-than-decent tire), and a couple known quantities like Bridgestone and Pirelli, considerably pricier but presumably good or better than good quality. Comments on these or others are welcome.

Personally I'm a Avon man. I've got Pirellis on the wife's scooter but as soon as they wear out again, no more. Already replaced the back tire to let the front one wear out and they cost more than Avons and got less mileage too, at least for me.

The YY250T that I had got 2000 on the back tire and 6000 from the front. The front was so badly out of balance that above 40 mph the scoot would jump all over the road. A MC dealer put the maximum amount of weights on it and made it acceptable but not ideal. At 2000 I got an Avon Stryke from the local Honda dealer near where we were at the time. That gave me 4000 miles. Next I replaced both with Shinko. That was what was on it when the engine quit and Doug took possession of it. With 4500+ the front showed very little wear and the rear still plenty of useable tread left. When I went to get the Reflex that I now have the rear was bald and I insisted they put a new rear tire which they did, a Bridgestone. That one gave me nearly 7500 miles including my 5317 mile cross country. Then I replace both front and rear (Bridgestone) with Shinko which I am still running. The front look almost new and rear ready to replace soon at about 4000. I picked up a Michelin Bopper from Chaparral. They told me Shinko was sort of hit and miss--some good some not so good. In another few hundred miles I'll install the Bopper and see how it does.

Hey, Scot, ya know we love ya, but it's hard to read your stuff in all caps. Plus, for some on line folks that's a signal that you're mad about something, which I suspect you're really not.

OK, we'll both learn if somebody responds. So far I've got two + votes for Avons. When I was checking around town, it seemed like the familiar names -- Pirelli, Michelin, Bridgestone -- cost a lot more without offering much more. Guessing Dunlop might be the same.

sorry the same thing happens to me then I cant figure out what there saying allways ,but I don't call people out on it ,what i was saying is the wider tires wear faster ,an I have falkins on my 1995 z28 wich has been making tires since the 50s CHINESE ,an there a good tire so I guess its unfair that if we are going to own Chinese scooters ,an the tires ,they cant all be bad ,its ok I forgive you anyone that does not understand me ,couse I don't allways understand every one ,an I probley should check my spelling a bit more thanks ellpee, the capital letters seems to be a matter of opinon ,I figured one can read the thread easyer ,personaly I am not going to put $125.00 tires on my scooter I payed 1850.00 for ,or I guess I would have saved my pennys an got a honda if that were the case ,an like i say honestly I got learning disability that only affects me when I get in a hurry ,or I did when in school spelling was not my best

All good, Scot. I do in fact find posts in all caps harder to read, and it's fact that writing long posts in all caps in internet "venues" has come to mean you're screaming at somebody. But nobody here thinks you're doing that (I don't think), folks are just trying to make you aware of the "protocol" that most posters try to adhere to and how you might be sending an unintended wrong message.
I sure agree, little reason to put hugely expensive tires on what's basically a cheap scoot unless there's a LOT of evidence that they're going to be better in some way. Unfortunately, all too often the people here in the USA who market these things charge a king's ransom for parts. Example: a tiny bit of plastic decorative cover for my turn signals, about the size of my open hand, Roketa wants about $30, and another $15 for shipping! (Weighs maybe six ounces!!!!) And I haven't been able to find any other source for it, so I'm at their mercy.
Anyhow, peace, bro. Keep on posting, I learn from you and I hope you learn from me and everyone else who posts here.

Hmmmm---I also find that all capital letters are hard to read, probably because they seem to be all jammed together in the same space as the little letters --CHECK THIS OUT--check this out--yup,all caps are really harder to decipher --and it is proper protocol to use lower case letters during conversations--of course ,the idea that anyone is yelling probably started with facebook and phone texting--kinda makes sense---my son yells when I fail to understand an explanation of quantum physics ---go figure--lol--as for tires,I have run Avons and Kendas on my 250,and the Original Kendas were hard as a rock and did not hold the road very well, then the Avon Viper Strykes made a huge difference in handling ,much better control and ride--,but only last about 4000 miles on the back wheel--seems to be about all you can get on a scoot tire---happy trail, fflintstone
