There is not much performance wise for the 300s, your best bet is putting in taller gearing in the tranny, you have the torque and power just little more UMP on the rear wheels.
Best bet to get any info on the tranny gears is JIM from RapidRepair. But if he doesn't know or cannot get the info you will have to open it up and see what gears are in there and the size of them to try and find taller replacement ones.
I have yet to hear anyone doing any REALl MODS for the 300s on the forums, but you can play around with the Variator. Mark the edge of the Variator with a marker 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch and run it full blast and see how far the belt is climbing that will tell you if you can squeeze a little more top end out of it. I recently got a Magnum, not a Tornado, but they are very similar. EXACT same engine, I think. I have a whole 67 miles on mine so far in a mountainous area of New Mexico. Scoot weighs a bit over 550, me on top plus fluids and minor cargo probably adds 220. I've had it on the highway for a bit, and up and down some fairly steep hills. Power is adequate, but hardly thrilling. For me that's okay as I just want to cruise around in full relax mode, but after driving a 244cc Roketa for several months I was hoping the 276cc Magnum would be a bit more lively. Can't contribute regarding modifications, way above my pay grade. I will say that nothing I've done so far has run the temp gauge over about 1/3, but then it's cool up here even in summer -- 70's/80's.

[replyingto=ellpee]ellpee[/replyingto]Whats the fastest speed that you have gotten it up to? The spec's say max is 55.9 mph, but have seen else where saying they do 65 to 70 mph!
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks Don

I've been to ~55 with my Magnum, but only for a few miles. Ran fine at that speed, but didn't exactly lay rubber getting there. If I could count on the same performance at 55 from now on I'd be happy, but it sounds like you and your wife want "hotter" performance? If so, others here will have to advise you about how to tweak the Tornado for performance.

Marcystoy, Re top Speeds of 65-70------DONT YOU BELIEVE IT!!! as they say in the Bugs Bunny cartoons. You might get that speed if you rode it off a high cliff but you would only get it once. Use a GPS to determine true speed, all motorcycle and scoot speedo's are off by 10-15 % Rapid Jim is the go to guy on IceBear as is AlleyOop. ;-X

After some additional miles on my Magnum I thorough agree with wolfhound. The Magnum (and I think the Tornado, Zodiac, and Compeller are for all practical purposes the same) is a small engine moving a lot of weight. It can keep up in local traffic, okay on non-Interstate highways, bogs down a big on hills. I've had it up near 60 riding solo on the flat, but it definitely didn't feel like there was much left beyond that. If you just want to cruise around in leisure mode you'll be fine; if you want to keep up with the Big Boys every inch of the way from stoplights and on the open highways, think again.

Nice Marcystoy, And if you look it has a STRAIGHT axle with Disc brakes on each side. Those are more trouble free axles not to many moving parts. Alleyoop Does the Axle look like this:

Useful picture; is that the newer (2012) design? I have more "slop" in the chain on my 2012 Magnum than I'm comfortable with, thinking that may be my next maintenance challenge. I know this thread is about the Tornado, not the Magnum, but I'm thinking there's not much difference under the plastic. I had ample opportunity to examine the rear axle on my Magnum when it was delivered, ashamed to admit I didn't focus as much as I should have, nor did I take pictures.

[replyingto=ellpee]ellpee[/replyingto]ellpee - not really sure if it's the newer 2012 model. It was advertised as a 2012 is really all I know about it. Attachments:
