I recently read about a fellow traveling across the country on a scooter and was riding the interstates? Ok no big deal to ride on a smooth road with a scooter or any motorcycle. Some think it's a big deal? Just can't see it? Why well first of all with traffic such as semis and in the large cities one has to be on their toes so to speak, heck need to do that no matter what you ride? But where do interstates mainly go? Mostly intersecting one big city to another or going around large cities, and all made for one thing, getting there in a hurry. Ok so if you're on a scooter what's the hurry? Myself I like to enjoy my ride, that's why I ride a scooter among other things but being in a hurry and wanting to run down a road and not see anything at 70MPH isn't my idea of enjoyment. I've made some pretty good humps on a scooter5 to be exact, one way at 408 miles 916 with trip home and man your old rear end can sure get tired riding 408 miles in one day on a 250 scooter. But here's the main enjoyment of riding a scooter: Ah the things on sees while in the hills and back roads and the places to stop and eat and have everyone look at your scooter, can't do that riding down a boring interstate for sure. Got old 250B in my shop right now, trying to do some PM on it and mama's 250A both copies of the Reflex. Going to change the coolant on my 250 after 11k I think it's time, need to put a new back tire on mama's all routine things. 5 trips alone to Big D = over 4500 miles alone, rode it in the hills flatlands and didn't cut her any slack, last trip I made it was 106F in Dallas at 5pm when I arrived and she never did nothing but run even in the red light to red light 5pm Dallas traffic at 106F. Interstate? = Boring, easy, no fun. BTW KZ I was 65 years old, still in rehab from a total knee replacement when I made that last July trip to big D and could do it again with no problems and I'll be 67 tomorrow May 1. If and when you make it to 65 and can still make a ride like that then you can tell me something about tough rides and remember I did it on a cheap Chinese scooter just like your cheap Chinese clone. The Helix a copy of yours? You really need to check your medication, dreaming of owning a real Helix and owning a cheap copy bought on Craigslist? But remember you can put "good" Honda Helix parts in it especially tail shafts and have fun paying OEM prices to boot! Edit: Better Picture? Right click on picture, Click on "properties". Take note of the image URL and the album where it came from? Maybe you didn't do so good in Photography 101 while you was writing those articles? JR

Main reason for not riding the Interstate highways? Staying alive would be # 1 for me. I ride my back roads for fun, economy, and scenery. If you have ever driven in downtown Atlanta expressway traffic you would understand. While I don't do the Iron Butt trips that JR does I do try to do 1 or 2 rides on the Blue Ridge Parkway and other roads in WNC. JR is a young guy and can handle those long scenic trips, I will officially be 77 on May 24 but have always considered my self a year older on New Years day.

Some times that "ain't mp other way to get there". Recently had to go from San Bernardino to southern NV. I 15 is the only road there! But I agree stay off of them if you can. I plan to ride from southern OR to NW AR in June and it is back roads everywhere possible. ( Might even stop and see you, JR.) And I am older that you. JR.
