Hey gang, Might be picking up a 150 this weekend. Here's the story. Guy 'claims' he has to move and is desperate to sell. According to him, it ran great but during the winter he flooded it while trying to start it and the battery is dead. Other than that, it runs fine, it just needs to be 'de-flooded' as he puts it. So, this guy either knows nothing about scooters.. or.. he's hoping the BUYER doesn't know anything. I told him I'm bringing a spare battery and will be trying to start it.. if I can't get it to start I won't be buying it. If it's 'flooding' and a battery like he says, there's no reason why I shouldn't be able to get it going in a matter of minutes. He says the registration is up to date. 1500 miles on it. He wants $500. Worth it? Any 'trouble spots' related to this model specifically? (other than the normal Chinese scoot stuff.. i'll be giving it a full PDI and whatnot)

NO!!! DO NOT BITE IT!!!!!!! Remember the lead content in Chinese products? ?? ( just kidding) Honestly for the price and IF all the paperwork is legit, I would have already bought it. Just my opinion. You could make your cash back on parts alone but, if it does start even better. You could flip it for a profit. Wish I could find a deal like that........ for $500 either something is really wrong or the owner is oblivious. Either way I say If I could I would. Let us know how it goes!!!!!!

Ha ha, who can pass up a piece of good ol' Chinese Lead?
Well I'm not getting my hopes up yet. It's been on craigslist about a week.. I figure if it was a great deal it would have been gone by now. I'm hoping these aren't the pics when it was new.. and now it looks like trash. Guess I'll find out. I just don't want to get it, even though it's cheap, if it doesn't run. Don't have the time to part it and whatnot.

Ya, prices are normally stupid around here. This is the first (potentially) good deal I've seen in about 4 years of searching.

A Craigslist AD is all about the Test drive or lack there of. Again I wish you luck!!!! Offer $300 if it won't start and build up to $450. Just don't get your hopes up and be ready to walk away if ANYTHING seems not right. Your not dumb (IMO) so, This could be a great deal or a waste of time either way I see nothing to lose in checking it out. Maybe plan on going out for breakfast/lunch with your significant other before hand so the trip is not a total waste if ya decide not to purchase. Just a thought......

How does he know he flooded it? I doubt it? It is hard to flood these scoots. I would go with a plug wrench, and a compression gauge, a pair of jump cables and a decent battery ( your car will be fine, Just be sure not to have your motor running when you hook up) and do a compression test. If you got less than 100 psi it needs some work. A uses 150 running is worth 500 to 750. At best. Not running- guess? Not much.

Ok guys just got back. Stunk of scam bigtime, or something wack.
Immediately he starts 'the story.' The registration is his 'sister' (or something,) he needs to sell because of family issues and he needs to move. He can't reveal where hes moving, not even the city, because he has had stalkers in the past. Some relative just broke his jaw and knee and he's recovering.. so he needs to sell this... because he wants to become a famous saxophone player and his significant other wants him to do it in this town and he can't become famous in this town... I'm not making this up I swear.
He goes on to tell me that according to a local shop, the motor 'might' have low compression.. and his relatives are also mechanics and (after I couldn't get it to start) tells me they may have sabotaged the scooter... I was like whaaat you can't be series right now. Sabotage. Really? LOL (that's what I was thinking anyway.)
So ya... I thanked him for his time and left. Way way wayyyyyy too fishy.
He says he might contact me and just dump it on me if he gets too desperate. If he wants to do that I'll take it, but not touching it otherwise.

Thats the reason I stopped looking on C. L. I did a 150 mile round trip only to find out the "perfect condition" scooter has a bent forks. Never again.

Good On You!!!!! First rule of any negotiation is be prepared to walk away!!!!!! Bummer ya didn't get a new ride but, better to be safe than possibly buying something stolen (that was my first thought) Save your cash and buy something YOU really want... I hope the visit wasn't a total loss (hope you had a decent drive/ride at least) Good CL deals can be had but, always shop around. At least you won't need to worry about the added lead content of of your diet now ;D
