SUCCESS! She idles normally now (well, as normally as I can get it.) Had to play with the idle screw, but the back wheel isn't spinning after it warms up.
Definitely louder than his; also, I found a hose coming of the CVT cover (it's right behind the wire-covered hose that goes to the carb), but it's too short to go anywhere.
I can hear the tapping from the valves; I think I'm going to pull them off and re-adjust them tomorrow, see if I can make it any quieter.
edit: The stock carb isn't good, IMO, since it doesn't have the A/F mixture screw, and it's "sealed", so I can't easily adjust/repair/replace anything. That's why I'm looking at a replacement carb, with a mind toward other future upgrades as well.

Ordered. Coming from NC (where I grew up! LOL), should be here in 2-3 days. Sweet!
Anything I should know about this carb?
edit: Also, I can hear the valves tapping loudly, so tomorrow I'm going to re-do them tighter, maybe .002 or .0015, see how much that reduces it.

Great!! Nothing you should know except Those are good carbs.
Yea if the Valves are tapping to loud go down on the feeler Gauge one number. .002 inches I think is to tight at least go .003 inches on them both or .004 inches on both. Alleyoop

I set the intake to .004 (really tight; the .003 fit in decently), and the exhaust the same, so that's why I'm looking at .002 or so. It ticks pretty loud, which I def don't want it to do. My neighbor's scooter - same as mine, but his is a 2010 - is purring really nicely, and I'd like to get mine to that.
Thanks for the help, and the carb link. As soon as it gets here, I'll be installing it.
Question: the intake manifold I have has two vacuum nipples on it; all the metal aftermarket ones I see have none, or one. I did find one seller selling the original (rubber) intake manifold, and they described it as "the hard-to-find with two vacuum nipples" - does that mean I can't put a better intake manifold on mine?

If your current setup on that scoot has a TWO one hooking up to the EMISSION stuff then you need one with TWO connectors. You want to use the Manifold connector on the Left Side the side the Fuel Hose goes on the carb For your Petcock or Fuel Pump and your ACV Valve on the Right Side of the Carb. The other connector on the Manifold on the RIGHT side should be used for the EMSSION stuff. Alleyoop

Mine looks almost like that, except the upper (as it would be in your pic if it were there) is going to the carb. In other pics, I've seen it going to the canister by the carb, where I have an open nipple that looks like it would be for it - except the carb would have an open nipple if I changed them. (Does that make sense? LOL)

Yes, I know I saw your pictures, did someone change the hoses around on you? Did you take it to a shop or something? Alleyoop

Correct, when the engine died the first time, the mechanic took all the CA emissions stuff off and re-routed everything. Should get a T-hose and add it? Or...?

No No No, if he disconnected all the EMISSIONS stuff on it the you are FINE you are JUST LIKE MINE then and the way it is, IS FINE. On that Canistor there are TWO hoses one is dangling WHAT is the other one hooked up to I cannot see where it is hooked up to . NORMALLY one of those hoses would be coming from the GAS TANK as a VENT for fumes to be trapped inside the Canistor and then released out. Alleyoop

The other one is going to a smaller canister, and then just hanging there.

Is your tank in front BELOW THE CARB if so you have a FUEL PUMP like I do, IF the Tank is ABOVE the CARB you have a PETCOCK GRAVITY FED. But on yours I see the Fuel line going to the other side of the CARB and I see a VISU Fuel Filter(WHICH ARE GREAT) that is what I use they trap every little thing, when you see it getting BLACK change it. Yes, I have a fuel pump, as the tank is in the front, where I put my feet. And yes, I put the Visu filter on myself. Also lengthened the fuel lines a bit so it'd be easier to see and get to it when it needs to be changed. Cost like $8 locally (I know I can order them cheaper online, but I had the stock crappy plastic one and wanted to swap it out ASAP.) I took the bike out to return the Harbor Freight stuff (since I didn't need it), and picked up dinner. Runs good, except for the loud ticking, which I know I'll work on in the morning. I'm a shade-tree mechanic, but I do enjoy doing some of the work myself (plus it's sorta fun. Not "I'd do it for a living" fun, but definitely knowledge-is-power fun.)
