After having a friend listen to it, I have come to the conclusion that my problem is to do with the muffler. The noise/vibration is due to something in my exhaust or muffler having a particular resonance frequency, and hence this why I only hear/feel it at a particular speed or engine rpm.
I just need to work out how I stop this from happening.

This may sound silly but check the center stand and see if the round rubber washer that is in the middle is broke or missing. This rubber bushing keeps the kick stand from rubbing the engine case when the stand is up. If it is gone then that noise you're hearing is what's going on. I had this happen to me once and it drove me crazy until I found it. JR Thanks for taking the time to reply, I will have a look in the morning, but I am not sure that is what is causing the noise. In the clip I posted above, my scoot was on the center stand while I revved the engine.

When I am out riding my scooter and when ever I go past 30/31 mph speeding up or slowing down, I hear a loud vibration coming from beneath my right foot or around the exhaust. If I rev the engine, I get the same effect. On another forum it was suggested that either my engine bearings were going bad or swing arm bearings.
The CVT looks okay to my untrained ear, the sound that I hear doesn't appear to be coming from that area.
Thanks,
NS.
p.s. I was finally able to fix my bikes electrical issues and everything seems to be working fine now. It turns out that there was a loose connector that I couldn't find until I finally stripped my scoot down.

Two issues

I pulled out two of the wires from the kill switch and hey presto I have light when I join them together. It looks like it was the kill switch all along. Damn I wished I would have thought to do that earlier.

I had the cover off today, and somehow while I looking for faults my scooters fuse decided to blow. Grrr, I don't know what to do with this bloody thing. The scooter dealer I bought it from has been on vacation for the past 3 weeks and god only knows when he will return. The last place I brought it to, is the far side of Nashville and I can't drive it to work because I don't have any lights.

Two issues
by: nashscooter - Aug 1, 2013 14:00:22 GMT -6
Post by nashscooter on Aug 1, 2013 14:00:22 GMT -6
The first issue that I have is that my kill switch no longer works and I have to used a jerry rigged switch under my seat instead. Somebody I know installed it for me, but I would like to be able to get the actual kill switch to work.
My second issue is that my headlight has suddenly stopped working. Last night my high beam indicator was partially lite even when I had it on low beam, so maybe it was shorting someplace.
I ride a TaoTao Roman 150 with only about 700 miles on the clock.
Any advice about where I should start troubleshooting my problems, and what kind of issues other than checking for loose wires. My blinkers, break lights all work properly and lights on the dash, other than my high beam light indicator all continue to function.

WHAT!! HOW WOULD THEY KNOW HOT TO TEST THE STATOR!!! you got to be kidding right, if they are truly scooter and or motorcycle mechanics they should not have to guess. I told you before I think you better find someplace that knows what they are doing. Either that or you need to get spend about 50 bucks and get some tools and Volt Meter and a 12v light tester and do the work yourself with our help here on the forum. That was just me asking, I am sure they do know what they're doing. This time I will have a mechanic do the work, but in future I will try and work on my scooter myself as much as possible. I very knew to scooters, so as you can imagine I am a little nervous about pulling my scooter apart, plus I don't really have any place to work on it, other than out on the pavement in 100+ degree weather.

[replyingto=alleyoop]alleyoop[/replyingto]They Rectifier was replaced along with the Stator the first time round. I would they would know how to test the Stator, but who knows, maybe I should ask them to check it when I go back again on Monday?
I assume the easiest way to test the stator would be to measure the resistance across the coils right? Infinite resistance equals bad stator?

The damn thing is back at the shop after only a day since I got it back. Yesterday I was driving home it home and thought the lights looked a little dim, and the meter on the dash didnt seem to show as good a charge as it normally did. Today, I went to go for a quick ride to the pool and it would no longer start up, without kick starting it, so I pulled off the batter cover and checked the voltage. 10.9 volts running or not. My lights on the way to the shop of course got dimmer and dimmer.
At the shop, the guy said that my stator was probably not working, but couldn't fix it until they got new parts on Monday.
I just don't understand why a stator would break after only a day of use, is there something on my scooter that could possibly be causing it to break?

I couldn't get my scooter to start the other day and today I found out, from the mechanic I brought it to, that I my stator was burnt out! Not sure why, it only has just over 620 miles on it.

It is a 150cc TaoTao Roman 150. I think it is gravity fed, but I could be wrong. Currently I have just over 1000 Kilometers on the odometer and it was last serviced at 500 Kilometers by the dealer I bought it from.
Cheers,
Nashscooter.

Lately, when my scooter has been parked for a while, it seems to take me a couple of tries before my engine turns over properly. Some times I think it is about to start, and then dies and other times it starts okay, but once revs start to fall, it dies and I have to restart. other than that, my engine seems to run fine and never quits in while standing at traffic lights.
Is this normal?

[replyingto=admin]JR[/replyingto]Good advise JR, thanks. I am sure if I am up to changing the switch myself, so I'll probably just have take it back to my dealer and have him do it. The parts are covered under warranty. Of course the fact that I don't think the switch ever worked, I kind of feel my dealer should fix it for free.
Any idea about how much I should expect to pay my dealer?

Thanks for your help JR, and everybody else who offered their opinions. It looks like I either need to repair my front break switch or simply leave well alone, seeing as I don't really need both switches to work anyway.
