Lately, when my scooter has been parked for a while, it seems to take me a couple of tries before my engine turns over properly. Some times I think it is about to start, and then dies and other times it starts okay, but once revs start to fall, it dies and I have to restart. other than that, my engine seems to run fine and never quits in while standing at traffic lights.
Is this normal?

It is a 150cc TaoTao Roman 150. I think it is gravity fed, but I could be wrong. Currently I have just over 1000 Kilometers on the odometer and it was last serviced at 500 Kilometers by the dealer I bought it from.
Cheers,
Nashscooter.

I'd check your spark plug to see if its still good, check ignition coil going into spark plug cap, they can come loose, check the other end and make sure its tight, check fuel filter, vacuum lines.

I couldn't get my scooter to start the other day and today I found out, from the mechanic I brought it to, that I my stator was burnt out! Not sure why, it only has just over 620 miles on it.

When I had a Roketa 150cc Aruba it was a pain to start. Coming to find out, it was the crappy battery that came with. Didn't last more than 5 months. Got a new battery and it started with no problems. You should charge the battery for 8 hours every 3 weeks or once a month.

The damn thing is back at the shop after only a day since I got it back. Yesterday I was driving home it home and thought the lights looked a little dim, and the meter on the dash didnt seem to show as good a charge as it normally did. Today, I went to go for a quick ride to the pool and it would no longer start up, without kick starting it, so I pulled off the batter cover and checked the voltage. 10.9 volts running or not. My lights on the way to the shop of course got dimmer and dimmer.
At the shop, the guy said that my stator was probably not working, but couldn't fix it until they got new parts on Monday.
I just don't understand why a stator would break after only a day of use, is there something on my scooter that could possibly be causing it to break?

It could just be the REGULATOR/RECTIFIER that is bad, The stator could be good. Hope they know how to test the stator and not just replace it and find out it is the REGULATOR/RECTIFIER. Alleyoop

[replyingto=alleyoop]alleyoop[/replyingto]They Rectifier was replaced along with the Stator the first time round. I would they would know how to test the Stator, but who knows, maybe I should ask them to check it when I go back again on Monday?
I assume the easiest way to test the stator would be to measure the resistance across the coils right? Infinite resistance equals bad stator?

WHAT!! HOW WOULD THEY KNOW HOT TO TEST THE STATOR!!!
you got to be kidding right, if they are truly scooter and or motorcycle mechanics they should not have to guess. I told you before I think you better find someplace that knows what they are doing. Either that or you need to get spend about 50 bucks and get some tools and Volt Meter and a 12v light tester and do the work yourself with our help here on the forum.
We can guide you step by step you will be our eyes and hands and you could help with some pictures of the parts and or Video and we can also put up pictures and or Video to help you. Alleyoop

That was just me asking, I am sure they do know what they're doing. This time I will have a mechanic do the work, but in future I will try and work on my scooter myself as much as possible. I very knew to scooters, so as you can imagine I am a little nervous about pulling my scooter apart, plus I don't really have any place to work on it, other than out on the pavement in 100+ degree weather.

Well from what they have done so far I would not trust them knowing as much as you think they do and I would try and find some place else and ask questions. Always look in the backroom where they work on the scoots and if it looks like a mess that is the kind of work you will have done on your scoot. Also find the mechanic because most will only have ONE and the rest high school kids if they have more than one. I know I have seen to many scooter shops and the only one I found to have a PROFESSIONAL mechanic is at a HONDA and SUZUKI dealer.
But be as it may I do wish you good luck with the shop and hope they fix it once and for all. Alleyoop

I had the same problem with my 2008 250cc SHEN. It took several tries to start and when it did it would sometimes die again. This drained the battery considerably ( cause of lights dimming) and I found myself putting the battery on a charge at least weekly to keep it alive. Finally brought it to a shop, they suggested a valve job. After that I had no problem, starts right up all the time. Good luck.
