Just happened to be reading this post and thought I'd chime in. I just bought a new (2012) Kymco People GTI300. On page 28 of my owners manual it states "Use a full synthetic quality 4-stroke engine oil to ensure longer service life of your scooter. Only use oils that have a SJ rating above per the API service classification". I live in Central New York and use full synthetic 10-40 in the motor, and full synthetic 75-90 in the transmission.

It's been pretty cold the last couple of days, I went ahead and tuffed it out long enough to check the oil in the engine (cold). At 28F, it's the consistency of jelly if you were to stir/chop it up with a spoon in the jar. What's up with that? I will certainly be changing that out, before taking the bike out for any more joy rides. I would suggest you use a full synthetic oil if you ride in that kind of weather.

You might use some Blue locktite on the threads also.

Suggest all members put their location in their profiles. Could be a great way to meet local folks to ride with. I justed joined and have already heard from a guy in my area. He's only the third person I know around here with a scooter. Hope to meet a few more to ride with.

Madcollie
Glad to hear from a local. I won't pick up the new scoot till April (it's at dealer in Rochester) Got a windshield and new top box to install, then I'll do pictures. Stay in touch. I'm a do-it yourselfer with tools, a heated garage and a new Harbor Freight scooter lift. Be glad to help you out with routine maintenance and mods if you want help.

My name is Mike Haggerty and I live in Syracuse, NY. I'm 69 years old and retired. I bought my first bike (Harley FXSTD)) at age 56. Last June I decided that 643lbs was a little too much for me to handle. I sold the Harley and bought a Kymco People 150. I absolutely LOVED it and rode it all summer and fall. The only downside was the low (58-60) top speed. Some of my commute is on interstate highways and that got tricky at times at 60mph. This fall I sold the 150 and bought a new Kymco People GTI300. I haven't been able to ride it yet, but I think it will be ideal for me. I look foreward to getting some good info and maybe meeting some local folks to ride with through this forum.
Update-- Have 300 miles on scooter and lovin it.
