I was asked to promote this run, It has changed since the first version of three laps around the Salton Sea. This year it will start in San Diego, travel East over the mountains and down into the Imperial Valley to my old home town of El Centro the head north and go around the Salton Sea and head back up and over the mountains to Escondido. We are talking about a grueling run starting at near sea level going up over a 550 foot elevation then down into the desert two near 200 feet below sea level, then riding up over winding mountain roads back over the top and into the North County of San Diego. If you have the time and the guts this would be a ride, 320 miles or more. You will go from beach to mountains along interstate 8, much of it has the old highway to ride on, I've been over all these roads as a kid. Would be a great ride for the brave. You would need a solid scooter to make it with the hill climbing on the way back over the mountains. I don't know, could be. I just think it will need a new crank, oil pump, oil pump chain, timing chain and timing chain guides, might as well get a tensioner, perhaps I should get a head as well since it has 10k on the motor.

I got up this morning and started on the scooter, not good news. I pulled the right side cover off and found lots of bits of metal in the oil and one the flywheel. Looks like I have to pull the motor and go through it. There were really big chunks in the oil drain pan.

BTW, I was looking at the plate on it after I got it home and it does say it is CARB approved.

Well I got up at 3:30 this morning picked up a friend and took a trip to get the scooter. We got there just after 9:00, got home at 4:30. Here are a couple pictures of it I got a set of seals for it and will pull the flywheel off to see if it is just the key, I think I may have one that will fit and if the crank is not damaged, it should be an easy and cheap fix. I just wanted to say Thanks to Lou for letting me have it.

Bob,
How are you, I have been through Palmdale a few times. JR is going to be near there in a couple months when he goes to visit family in 29 Palms. You should be having good riding weather, enjoy the new toy.

Well another way to look at it all is that it gives some people something to do. And it woke up a few people that were sleeping.

I think loctite there will just burn out. If you use some, look for a high heat rated one.

I am surprised that a valve didn't slip down far enough for the piston to whack it.

What the easiest fix I've heard of is to install a bicycle speedometer on the scooter. Some of the better ones are easily calibrated for proper tire rotation.
