Finally found a good quality cover at a place called Discount Ramps for a reasonable price, after getting two "large" ones that were both too small.

Not on you, you Da Man, doing a great job. But visiting this site is getting to be like visiting the American Legion or whatever. "What ever happened to good ol' xxxxxxx?" AlleyOop, JR, many other familiar names now rarely if ever seen. Of course there are many other scooter sites, maybe they relocated. I'm hanging in for now, too lazy to switch and too hooked on scootering to give it up altogether. Be well, cyborg and all others who are still active here.

Does anybody besides me have the impression this site is slowly dying? Used to be lively, have learned a ton here, but weeks can go by now without a post in the forums (classrooms) I usually watch. If so, too bad, but wondering where to go in future. Since scooters, especially Chinese, seem to be Typhoid Mary in many places and situations, the advice one can (could) find here is invaluable.

The ol' 2012 Magnum is living in our driveway these days, and the Tucson summer sun can be a killer. Any links or other hints on where to buy an affordable, reasonably durable cover without paying Harley/Goldwing prices? Already ordered one on Amazon, but it was wa-a-aay too small, looked like something for a kiddie tricycle. I had a cover when I bought it in 2012, since defunct, but don't remember where I bought it, could be it came with the Magnum.

My 2012 Magnum requires a FLEXIBLE section in the exhaust system between the steel exhaust pipe and the muffler (two, actually, one on each side). The OEM part was a steel mesh type hose which didn't last very long; I replaced that with a section of coiled metal sheathing, the kind used for heavy electrical cables, but I haven't been able to get a good seal on that, size is wrong (1 1/4", need 1 1/2").
Knowing Ice Bear, they probably want $100 apiece for this darn thing, so I've been looking for a DIY substitute but have had no luck. Automotive sources like Auto Zone and muffler shops don't have anything that small, plumbing and electrical and cycle sources also no luck so far. Can anybody suggest a possible source for this material? Don't need much, only two pieces roughly 6" long, but am striking out so far.

CAVEAT: this post is just for entertainment, not for additional helpful info. But this thread resonates with me as I've chased problems on my Chinese scooters.
First the mouse thing, we have packrats in AZ that do the same thing, guessing not so much in FL, but always good to do a full plastic-off check on a scoot that has been stored for awhile, especially if outdoors. And I say that hating to have to remove plastics for any reason.
Handlebar switches, darn those things, have had to remove/?repair?/replace a couple, never quite right afterward, tolerances (switch left, switch right, switch middle) apparently very tight. Grrrrr.
Beyond that, looks like you went above and beyond, so good onya. Not sure about Cyborg's re-jetting idea, would think FL pretty close to factory expectations for altitude. I had (have) a scoot that didn't do well at 7500', but at least so far it seems to be happy at 2300', and at near sea level seems to me it should be fine other than minor mixture tweaking.
In fairness I will say, though, that I need to start following the non-Chinese threads and see if what I find over there suggests they are any better. That's the "corporate wisdom" as far as I can tell, but it might just be brand loyalty talking.

Oh, and under the heading of "general discussion." I see a SLEW of used CanAms out there for sale at far below the dealer price for new ones. I'm not into the two-in-front design at all, but just wondering if these bikes have proven disappointing to their original owners. Sure looks that way.

Posted this in general, but then thought this would be the more appropriate place.
Finally got my Magnum up and running, but wife is suggesting I sell it and buy something of better quality, stipulation #1 being NOT CHINESE. Thing is, I don't see any Japanese or European trikes out there except the Piaggio, which I don't like. Kits yes, but none ready-made from the factory. And if I were to move up to a trike motorcycle, the only names I find are Harley and CanAm, WA-A-AY above my pay grade. Any suggestions?

Yes, it was a weeks-long source of frustration, glad to have finally figured it out, and will know to check that possibility if it happens again in future.
Funny story about Chinese quality: in reassembling everything I noticed the rear half of the seat was loose and tried to tighten it, but couldn't get it good and tight. So I removed it, and found that the two bolts holding it in place were entirely different. Same 14mm size, but different lengths, one stainless steel and one not, and the hardware between bolt and nut -- washers, bushings, etc. -- was both different and crude. The bolts go through two 3/4" holes in the plastic, so some kind of sleeve is needed to keep them centered. One side had two ordinary washers of different sizes, so the bolt was just slopping around in that big hole; the other side had a brass bushing with a couple O rings added to try to get it to fit the hole, but it was at best a poor fit. A visit to the little drawers at Ace got me a collection of stuff that served the purpose much better, seat is back on and nice and tight, but my impression was that at the end of the Chinese assembly line, some doofus discovered he was out of the right parts and just made something up out of whatever scraps were still lying around. I suppose that could happen with any brand of scooter, but it's just another entry on things I've found wrong with this Magnum since I bought it.

New fuel pump received and installed, Magnum has so far started three times and runs smoothly. Tweaked around on the mixture and idle screws, looking good. Hoping I can call this one solved at long last.

Ah so. So in the context of a scooter and a scooter carb and how it works, a manual "choke" is really an "anti-choke," using the enricher port to add a little more gas on startup, and the human in the seat decides when to turn it off instead of the electrical wax heater thing. Got it. Waiting for new fuel pump at the moment, hoping it will start right up and run smoothly once that's installed. PITA to get at it, but what isn't on most scooters?

Okay, but an actual "choke" does the opposite of what an enricher does, right? Reduces air rather than increasing gas? If so, what does it connect to on the carb to accomplish that? And what becomes of the enricher then -- just left in place but unplugged?
