Hey everybody. I ride a kymco super 8 150. Most of the roads around here are either 45 or 55 mph. Wot I can hit 57 gps verified but I don't like to do that and as the traffic is light and the 55s don't last but a couple of minutes I can usually just cruise closer to 50(no one behind me). But there are a couple areas where I would feel better with just a couple more mph for five or six minutes. I also have a flat spot in my acceleration between about 20 and 30 mph. I understand a performance variator with a larger diameter will help the belt ride higher giving me a little more top end, but while researching I found a post also about a super 8 addressing the same issues. This guys local shop recommended a Naraku variator which has a more aggressive ramp plate, and a 2000rpm torque spring to balance it out. He was very happy with both acceleration and top end gains. I was just beginning to understand variators throwing torque springs and aggressive ramp plates in the mix is more than I can process.I assume the ramp plates would be forcing the belt higher sooner, so the extra rpms would be needed especially on the bottom end, and as long as I stay away from wot except 5 minute bursts maybe once a week the extra rpms shouldn't hurt me too bad on the top end. Then again I'm only guessing at what ramp plate means. Now please explain how I have no clue

Welcome Dudley. From my understanding on the ramp plates the more aggressive is to do with different angles that are supposed to improve performance and from what I also gather this is more for racing as taking off and getting there is what a short track racer wants. I can see if you ride in town from red light to red light how one might want the same effect so to speak. Here may be a solution without spending a lot and give you the improvement you want and it's simply going to sliders and here's a video on how they work; thescooterprofessor.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=genvideo&action=display&thread=384Now sliders just by design will push the plates closer together and make the belt go farther out which will gain a small amount of top end. Now the sweet part about slider is they if correctly set to the right weight can give you more aggressive take off and a little top end too. Now you need to know your roller weight and if you don't you need to remove them and weigh them, no scale no problem take them to a jewelry store or the local post office and get the ounce weight of a couple of rollers and convert it to grams. Just for argument sake lets say your rollers are 14 gram. so more aggrsssive and not lose or gain a touch ot top end then I would start out wuth 13 gram sliders, this will increase the engine RPM by about 350 max and also push the belt out farther on the variator. It's all plug and play if you don't like that range at least you're at a place where you can fine tune it more and get what you want. Still not happy then get the performance variator and still use the sliders you bought too. Also you can mix and match sliders say half 14's and half 13's which equals an over all average of 13.5, yes a half of gram can make a difference. JR

So if I go with a performance variator which do I buy. I don't want a dr pulley just because everyone seems to have one. How can we compare products if we all have the same one. Anyone know the diameter on the Naraku I've been looking at? It comes with weights matched for the super8. Any idea if they are actually matched by Naraku or just kind of matched by the importer? Any other brands you might recommend?

I use NCY or Prodigy on a GY6...they probably have them for Kymcos
The only time you will see much difference is if the ramps pulleys are larger...or the angle and ramps are different...
