OK - I didn't make New Year's Day. I intended to but the the weather didn't cooperate. Yesterday was beautiful so I suited up and went for the first ride of the year. Jan. 7 - new record for me. I went and rode for about 1/2 hour. Also did burgers on the grill. I'm liking Adams County!

Nice CC!! I didn't ride yesterday, ball games etc. didn't allow it but I could have! Even right now this early it's 52F but we've got a chance of rain for the next 3 days but looks like Wed. will be a clear and high of 64F day to ride. Even old Zack is wanting to ride since he's got his license now. I'm going to put the trickle charger on all of mine and get ready. I also ordered all my garden seed two days ago and even stopped and found out when the co-op is going to have seed potatoes because I'm getting ready to start the early garden! So don't go getting too warm and happy on me or someone will drop one of those old groundhogs off on ya! So far it's been a very mild winter and we're bound to get some of the ugly stuff yet but lets hope not. Only thing about mild winters is the following year the varmints are worse, ticks, snakes, and fire ants! Man those things were brutal this year! Enjoy the weather! JR

Sorry JR. I can't find any goundhogs around here. Maybe there extinct down here. Haven't even seen a dead one. We were talking about a garden yesterday. We've had less than 4" of snow so far and it's generally been mild.
Richard - get that thing together and get riding. How about a ride form V-dale out to Strongstown and back?

Sorry JR. I can't find any goundhogs around here Alright! Garden! The co-op told me this morning they would have seed potatoes by the end of this month! I've also got some of my own for ones left over from last year that have sprouted. When we get through this rainy spell here I'm going to start plowing! Brocculi, lettuce, spinach, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, and taters here I come! JR

Dr. Barb's friend told her about this hydroponic setup that she did. I'm thinking that I prefer a more traditional approach tho. I get to use my cultivator. Maybe do tomatoes, peppers, beans, snap peas. Good grief JR she even signed us up for the Garden Club.

LOL But I will tell you that you find a better selection of seeds online. Here in Arkansas we have in lots of small towns and the cities what is called Farmer's Co-op or just Co-op for short. You find all supplies from radish seed to feed to fertilizer.
Once you order online a few times thing your mailbox will be full of new catalogues from all kinds of companies and you will get them in the spring and fall with lots of specials. I just ordered $135 worth of seeds for $72 total with shipping with my coupons, not bad.
The thing I like about ordering online is the variety, take the Co-op they will have maybe 5 kinds of the basic popular lettuce seed for this area, whereas in my books I can order seed from different parts of the country and a lot of varities and we love fresh lettuce. I plant about 12 different varities.
I also grow my on seedlings from broculli to tomatoes and if you know anything about plants you know they are very high at the stores. Again varity, I grown 15 different kinds of tomatoes and about 12 different kinds of peppers and save a bunch.
Right now I am seeding plants, I just sit up a table in my room and I have lots of seeding trays again bought online and I used them year after year. Just buy what we call a grow light bulb put a little heater in by them to keep them warm and soon you've got a green house in the house!
Economical, better and easy to do.

Hey Richard! Where do you think "CCProf" came from? I taught Astronomy there for 10 years and also Marketing and Econ. Dr. Barb retired as a full-time full Professor - did Early Childhood Ed and Psychology. We were at Richland.

Richard - I know the area REALLY well. We're Johnstown natives. Actually, my grandma's family was from around your area. My great-grandfather was a chicken farmer, tombstone cutter and pastor at the Strongstown Methodist Church - now the historical soc. My great-great grandmother (or maybe great-) was from Vintondale. Grandma's brother lived on 403 between Dilltown and Strongstown and her other brother lived up on the hill above Dilltown. I've hunted alll around there. Used to hunt around Blacklick Creek there at V-dale, other side of the tracks.

Larry, I love Vintondale, been here over 10 years, grew up in Holidaysburg, I have a twin brother that lives in Dove (PA), I also pastored the Dilltown Baptist Church for alittle while, as they looked for a pastor, I also enjoy hunting, but nothing this year, but it was nice to get out. What was your great grandmother's name from V-dale? Maybe you even know some of the people that come to the V-dale church, well, good to met you No scooting here for some time got about 5 inches of snow

I've got to say that I didn't make the New Years ride at midnight because I got sick Sat . Celulitus came back into my leg and I've been taking meds for it . I have to keep my leg proped up and drink a lot of fluids. The ride wouldn't have been that bad cause the temp. wasn't bad at all. So , I guess I wasn't the first to ride this year but wait till 2013. It will be my turn again.
