When I was a kid, my mum liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now & then & I remember one night in particular when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day at work. On that evening so long ago, my mum placed a plate of eggs, sausage, and extremely burned biscuits in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed! Yet all my dad did was reach for his biscuit, smile at my mom and ask me how my day was at school. I don't remember what I told him that night, but I do remember hearing my mum apologize to my dad for burning the biscuits. And I'll never forget what he said: "Honey, I love burned biscuits." Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked him if he really liked his biscuits burned. He wrapped me in his arms and said, "Your mummy put in a long hard day at work today and she's real tired. And besides... A burnt biscuit never hurt anyone!" You know, life is full of imperfect things... And imperfect people. I'm not the best at hardly anything, And I forget birthdays and anniversaries just like everyone else. What I've learned over the years is that learning to accept each others Faults and choosing to celebrate Each other’s differences, is one of the most important keys To creating a healthy, growing, and lasting relationship. So...please pass me a biscuit. And yes, the burned one will do just fine! And please pass this along to someone Who has enriched your life...I just did! Life is too short to wake up with regrets... Love the people who treat you right And forget about the ones who don't. ENJOY LIFE NOW - IT HAS AN EXPIRATION DATE!

LOL Not at all I just got this on a email and it just reminded me of when I was a kid at home. My father allowed no bad comments on the meal that was prepared but one could politely voice an opinion if it was said like this.
"those biscuits are a little over done but they sure are good! " Even if you hated the spinach you still put some on your plate and ate it and there was no fuss about it.
We all can over cook a biscuit but just like this time of season it's not about pointing out a mistake but rather the appreciation of the effort.

Sure we didn't dare make a fuss at the dinner table , you would be sorry , its that funny feeling . It comes from the left and the right , it was called a good old smak from mom and dad . Don't dare cry "they didn't want to hear a peep out of you" otherwise you got seconds .
Sometimes I think it was a better way than 5 min timeout . man could mom throw a shoe "being the youngest of 4" she got better with time , too bad for me .

Know what you mean Richard we all gaurded the toaster very carefully and for sure you didn't want to be last getting toast as it was already hot enough to burn a barn down by then! You put it in and as soon as you saw any color you snatched it out! LOL
I also lost my father and I still miss him every day, his picture is over my computer desk and for me it's comforting to see he still is keeeping a close eye on me! LOL
John I know what you mean on the seconds and at my house you were real careful about getting the old eyes bigger than your stomach problem because if you didn't clean up your plate your morning eggs would be served with it! LOL
I was raised by people who survived the great depression and waisting or throwing away food just point blank is and was not acceptable and as confusing as it is to my kids now at home I have no tolerance for food to go into the trash can.

Nice sentiment,JR..I remember our breakfast of biscuits and gravy, eggs and any kind of fried meat that was handy...and if you put it on your plate you were obligated to eat it...we had toast only on special occasions ,like first Saturday of the month ,when company came to visit and we went to town and bought some "light bread" to toast..I still preferred those beautiful big biscuits and butter and gravy !! I will print this little story out and post it on our bulletin board at work...it does touch our sentimental soul during this special time of year---Merry Christmas to your and yours, and to all our scooter friends at Scooter Professor !!!

so yesterday , I was out driving and the icing on the cake was a song came on the radio . After reading this post put me in a mind set . The song was cats in the craddle .
My dad has not been around for a long time . He is with me everyday . It was a moment .

Pass the Biscuits hits the nail on the head. How many times have you been invited to a party or dinner or whatever and 9 out of 10 there is always something you really do not like. Or the way the cook made it because it does not taste the same as your better half makes it or is missing something that your better half adds. And you sit there and eat it and tell the cook the food is great and see the joy you bring to the cooks face, happens all the time.
Life is short, and if you can bring a smile and a little joy to someone that will also bring joy to you as well. Alleyoop

True story : One evening I came home pretty late with a hunger in my belly. As I checked out the frige , I saw a big bowl half full of spagetti . Wow , just for me . So I gathered up the bowl , grabbed some butter, then got a couple of pieces of bread from the drawer. Oh ! I forgot the glass of milk. Anyway, as I sat there eating away my father walked in and saw that I was eating out of the bowl . I think that upset him a little as he said to me, " Your going to eat all of the spagetti that's in the bowl ." After drinking all the milk from the glass, I did get up and get a glass of water to finish off the meal but I did sit back down and started eating again. After all the spagetti was gone , I sat back in the chair and said, "THAT WAS REALLY GOOD, IS THERE ANY MORE ? " Now I don't know if he was mad or if he couldn't take it anymore but as he turned to go down the hall I could here him grumbling. So don't underestimate how much a growing boy can eat or what he might eat . If I had found a basket of burnt biscuits , they would have been gone.
