After watching some of the videos of scooter rides on here, I am wondering if I have a problem. All of the ones I heard had nice throaty sounding mufflers. When I lay on the throttle, my MP250A sounds like someone beating back and forth inside a coffee can with a wooden spoon. When I am not accelerating, its nice and quiet. As soon as I open the throttle, it gets that sick banging sound. Stock muffler. 280 miles Any thoughts? Ernie

For sure check it out all the way to the head, since you only have this many miles on it she may be loose and just need snugging up.

I checked every bolt on the exhaust system and all were tight right up to the head/manifold bolts.
Any other ideas?

Wouldn't anyone care to hazard a guess on my strange hard throttle racket?

Not sure but I had the center stand rubber wheel come apart and the center stand was beating the engine to death......nice and shiny and it would only sound like a rod knocking when I was accelerating.....changed the wheel and the scoot is nice and quiet....check it out...

Thanks! Do you mean the little black rubber bumber that keeps the center stand from hitting metal on metal when it's up?

My little black rubber bumper wheel looks like new. I wonder if I wedged a thick towel between the rubber bumper and the motor I would be able to hear a difference. My luck it would get caught up in the machinery and cause a worse problem.

I wrapped the little rubber bumper wheel with several layers of duct tape. Maybe this will make a difference.
God forbid, maybe I do have a rod knocking???

ernie, you might check and see if the "guts" have rusted out inside the muffler. I know the low miles on your scooter warrant that this is not the problem, but it might be worth a check. When the insides of the muffler rust out the pieces fall into the bottom of the muffler and it rattles really loud. The best way to tell if this is the problem is to remove the muffler, from the scooter, and rotate it end to end, while holding it out in front of you and listening for the clunking of loose "guts"! You don't have to remove the head pipe, only the two screws on the small chrome cover (8mm) loosen the clamp under this cover. Remove the bottom rear bolt from the muffler and carefully loosen the top bolt and support the muffler with one hand while removing the top bolt. The muffler is pretty heavy so be prepared! When the bolts are removed, twist the muffler loose from the head pipe.

What happens when you remove the three bolts on the back of the muffler around the hole?

Well, if you remove the three bolts on the rear chrome cover you get....the rear chrome cover off! This is just a cover and offers access to nothing. Good luck!
