For RapidJim or anyone else who knows: I've decided to bring my Ice Bear Magnum back from Ruidoso NM to Tucson, where I'll either get more riding enjoyment out of it or decide to sell it. Either way, though, it's been very, very hard to start, and I want to have a pro tweak it so when I hit the button it starts immediately. Thing is, the usual, Chinese scooter, nobody really wants to work on it. They all tend to prefer their own brand and either refuse outright or put all sorts of disclaimers on any work they do. Be that as it may, my chances will probably be better with someone who sells and works on THEIR scooters that have a comparable engine, so my question is simply, what is the 2012 IceBear Magnum 278cc engine a clone of? I suspect Yamaha/Linhai, but don't know for sure. Who can tell me?

ellpee I would like to ask you a question I have 3 Zodiac's all have 300 cc never had a problem with hard starts. From day one I checked compression so I had a base line to work with. So far my compression hasn't changed much maybe 2 pounds in 7,000 mile and never made a valve adjustment. Now saying that maybe check compression first if ok check for blue spark if not upgrade coil and plug. If that is ok pull carb check the rubber intake they have been a major souse of hair line cracks which in my case many times I keep many spares on my self's and check vacuum hoses ans gas lines.

My situation in Ruidoso is complicated in that I'm running at 7500' altitude more or less. So right from jump I had to change the jets, stock were good for "normal" attitudes but not for the thin air way up high. But even then, it was consistently hard to start, good spark, good fuel flow, etc., bad enricher replaced, eventually replaced entire carb, still very hard to start. Fine once started and warmed up, but a pure bitch to get going first thing. In short, lots of grief for only 1700 miles of "fun." But in any event, bringing it back to Tucson, 2500' more or less, is going to change a lot of variables. I'm hoping after some TLC it'll kick right over like my Roketa used to, but we'll see. Can't ride it OR sell it until the problem is resolved.

Just thinking do you have any old time carburetor rebuilt company's in you area who may have a answer to the ratio to air and fuel in thin air which your carb needs to run in?

Hard starting is normally a carb issue or valve adjustment.

So RJ, do you know the answer to "what is the Magnum engine a clone of"? Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, what? My thinking is, I'm more likely to get somebody to work on it if they sell scoots with the equivalent engine.

Scoot is in NM, I'm in Tucson. Won't be brought here for awhile yet, at which time I'll hand it to one of the local shops and see what they find.
