My yy250t has just started acting up when I try to start it. It acts like the battery is week or dead but all the lights are bright. I checked the cables at the battery and they are tight. Some one told me it sounded like a loose cable. Sometimes it will start and sometimes it won't. Any one got any ideas?

Sounds like a bad cell in the battery. Take it to parts supply house they will test battery for free ,they will put a load on it to check the cells.

That is a distinct possibility of a bad cell,,,,it puts out 12v ok but with no amps,,,so lites look good but a starter motor needs amps to be strong,,,or could be the battery ground to frame connection may be loose or not clean so basically a bad ground

Too bad you're so far away; I have one just sitting in my garage, spare for my now-sold Roketa, that I'd give you for free. Costs $10 to drop it off at the recycling place, I'm too cheap for that but can't bring myself to just chuck it in a dumpster. FYI, shortly before I sold my scoot I bought a battery on line that had more amp-hours (12 as I recall), and it performed very well; wasn't all that expensive either. So if you need to replace your battery, think about "upgrading" instead of going with another 9 aH.

Did you check the brake cable? If it's not detecting you holding the brake in when you try to start it, it may not start. Also, the safety switch under the kickstand could give you an intermittent problem with starting.

HI Jon,
I was wondering if you ever got your starting issue resolved. I am now having the same issue. Last year I replaced the regulator, the lights were never brighter and it seemed to work, but it was at the end of the season, so I didn't get to ride very much. I had it on the battery tender all winter and it started fine. The problem is, is starts once and then it won't start after that unless I put it back on the tender.
The battery starts at 12.9 volts when I remove it from the tender. I start the bike, then test the battery with the volt meter attached and the voltage drops to 12.6. I roll on the throttle and the voltage goes up to 14. So everything looks good. Then I turn the bike off and the battery has dropped to 11.6 and won't start.
I took it to Auto zone and Advanced Auto. They said they can do a regular test, but not a load test. When they test it, they said the battery looks good.
A friend suggested that it could be the starter, but I don't think it is, because of the battery dropping when I turn the bike off. Any thoughts???
Thanks for any suggestions...

Thanks for the advice. This is what I have now. How many amps should I look for?

Well, there's CCA and there's Ah. More of either is a good thing. As I recall the OEM battery on my scoot was 9Ah, and I replaced it with a 12 or maybe 14 Ah. The numbers go higher, but prices rise sharply at the high end. Seems to me the one I bought, from an on line source somebody recommended here, cost around $75. No battery problems after that.
