Ever since I got my JCL MP250A there is a strong gasoline smell when I pull into the garage after a ride. The next morning, it's gone. I have checked thoroughly for leaks and there are none. I'm wondering if the problem could be the charcoal canister. These bikes are 2007 models which were gassed up and tested when they were made. They have been sitting around in crates for four years. I'm thinking the charcoal canister may have gotten a snoot full of gas and crapped out in the crate. Have you ever tried to find a charcoal canister for your scooter on line? Good luck! Ernie

Have you checked the hoses to be sure of no leaks and such to the cannister, especially the one from the gas tank neck that feeds the cannister? If there is the slightest hole or crack in this hose while you are traveling down the road the tank can build up pressure and when you stop this could be the smell seeping out. Also check the gas cap gasket.

I thought of putting a balloon over the canister vent just before I pull it in the garage. If that stops the stink, I'll know the canister is bad.
Just in case, can I change the line from the tank to the canister that you mention without draining the tank? Or will I have gas all over the place?

As long as the tank is not full, yes you can.

I would love to buy a new vapor recovery canister but I can't find one on line and my parts diagrams show only a thing called a one way valve with a hose going to a canister looking thing but no part # for the canister.

Hey Ernie, I know alot of these scoots have a destinct smell to them but not of Gas..?...Even after three years mine smells the same when its hot or when I work on it. I am not sure I would purchase a canister yet until you are sure...I mean really sure. Hate to see you spend the money plus shipping and have it still stink. I have done such a thing and the problem has actually been something else. There are only a few things that could give you that strong of a gas smell.. so be sure to eliminate all of the obvious first there guy.

hi, im new to the forum but this sounds like a problem that my Roketa Bali-250 had. it ended up being the inline fuel filter had a small crack at the seam and it leaked for a while after i parked it but the gas evaporated before getting to the floor so it made it hard to pinpoint the problem. hope this helps

Check the Float Bowl Drain Screw!!!!!!!! If its a bit loose only vapors are released. No puddle just a slow smelly leak. This is a common issue 50/150cc bikes. Not real sure it applies to a bigger bike. Just a thought as I had the same problem with the gas smell. Oh and it may be a decent idea just to get rid of all the EPA stuff. Simplify the plumbing and have less parts to go wrong. Just a random opinion trying to help a bit.

I ended up replacing the carburetor. No more gas smell and it runs good now too.
