MC-54B Clutch stuck on shaft By znenrider60 (Read 518 times)

I'm currently working on a 2008 MC-54 B that I picked up off of Craigs list. Its was a mess and is slowly getting cleaned up. When I got to the CVT i saw that the clutch bell was a beautiful shade of blue from being burned. When I removed it I saw that the clutch pads are glazed and well worn. I decided that it all needed to be replaced. I then tried taking the rest of the clutch off and discovered it wasn't budging. I tapped it with a rubber mallet, nothing. I tried prying it and nothing. Any suggestions on how I can get it loose?

Purely a guess, some heat and one of those bearing puller things?

overnight penatrating oil on the shaft where the clutch is mounted,,(i like tri flow myself),,let it sit overnight,,,a sharp rap with a small hammer to the clutch collar thats on the shaft,,,and a puller will get that puppy off

I'll try that when I get off work. I suspect heat got it stuck so heat will free it. I'll let you know the results.

I finally had a chance to work on this part of the project today. I used a pulley puller and it eased right off. I discovered under it a lot of fried grease that had caused it to stick. I tried to loosen the large clutch nut, I stood on the spring and it didn't budge. I tried C-Clamps and nothing. It fleets like the whole thing is stuck. I see what I can di with the pulley pullers to loosen it, but I fear its a lost cause.

I don't have a socket that big. I tried standing on it to compact the spring and nothing. It rides just fine as it is. I have bigger problems with the electrical system that I'm working through with posts on the board.
