Hello all-
I recently bought a slightly abused and re assembled 2006 "Bandit UC250z", with the Linhai 170mm style engine.
Scoot was running rich when I test rode it, previous owner had three sooty plugs to go with it.
I get it home, de plastic it, find no bloody air cleaner. No tube, nuthing. Arrgh!
Do the double oil change, watch valve cover vent tube for blowby, virtually zilch.
After a decent carb clean, (couldn't read pilot jet size clearly, 35/38 I think, main is 132) add a cone K&N, elbow, tube, etc, we go for an extended spin.
Runs pretty well, but has a hesitation off of idle, like 15-20mph. Pulls ok, but acts like its starving past 50 ish on wot.
Put new chino mikuni style fuel pump, diaphragm was leaking into vacuum side on origional. (Might have accounted for some of the richness and doggy top end meybe?)
Another ride, hesitation off idle much better, top end pull still lacking.
Ok, so I pull carb, drill pilot to 40, main to 140, ride more,
Slow speed hesitation a bit worse, ( I know, never change two things at once. Impatience can be costly) but wot much much better. Very happy at 55-60, pulls strongly all the way up.
Sooo, after this ramble, my question is this.
What would you "guess" the pilot and msin should be, only mods being the intake. Exhaust bone stock.
Side not, I've installed an exhaust gas temp gauge (gotta love fleabay sometimes!)
Will report back on idle and hard pull temps once the longer lead thermocouple gets here.
Thanks for the time, folks, Ive enjoyed just lurking the last two weeks.
Dave

Well, after a wot plug check, which came out nice and toasty lite brown, it seems I went a step too far with the pilot jet upsize.
After several different idle screw adjustments, and various egt and o2 readings, a 38 pilot is going in.
Exhaust is next on the list, will be part of the "winter garage entertainment" program.
Hoping for at least a couple more sunny days before hanging up for winter!
Cheers!

Well, here in south Arizona, winter becomes the better riding season for me. I just don't do well after we reach 100 and by 110 and up, I am frazzled just getting into my air conditioned car in the garage.
One of the reasons I left northern Ohio many years back was the nasty cold and windy snow filled winter days. I still go back to visit but only in late August, September, and early October. Halloween is just the beginning of winter for sure.

No, but my son in law is. I grew up in Michigan City, Indiana, but left there at 17.

Well, it seems my scoot has a pilot jet of different design, so neither a kehin or mikuni pilot will just screw in. I've taken a mikuni 37.5 pilot, run the threads up to the base of the large diameter, and chucked it into a drill press and turned down the od of the emulsion tube a bit, hoping it will go into the receptacle on the carb.
It's in, SEEMED to seat properly.
Tomorrow will tell if itsa gonna fly or flop, Im crossing my fingers.(and toes, nose hairs, etc etc)
Hey, if its not an adventure/challenge, is it really any fun?
