My duke 250 gets the dreaded shaking at takeoff. I already took off the cvt cover and blew everything out but it did not fix the problem. I plain on taking it all apart for a better cleaning and roughing up the pads and adding boric acid and greasing the shafts to hopefully fix the problem. While I am in there I would like to upgrade some stuff. It has the cfmoto 244cc helix copy, I wanted to upgrade to variatior with sliding rollers, and slides with more low end and wouldn't care if I lost 5 mph or so on the top end. I see that it is the 23x18 but what is the factory gr size? What do you recommend on the lower weight 2, 4, or 6 grams lighter? It goes 70mph now but when I get on a steep hill can go down to under 40 by the top at wot. Lance Duke 250 with 1950 miles, Belt looks good to me. Yes the shaking taking off is caused by the clutch pads slipping they are most likely glazed and once you take off the glaze they will grab the bell. That usually happens when one is very light on the throttle taking off and trying to get the weight moving. I usually tell folks give it some throttle once you get it moving you can always back off.
As far as going up hills you need more RPMS so weigh the current weights and try 2 gram lighter weights. A lot of folks put in 12s and or 13s to get the RPMS up for an area that is hilly. From the factory they usually come with real heavy weights like 20gram or so.
I am sure some of the 250 guys will chime in with their experiences. Alleyoop

Yeah I try to give it max throttle most of the time when it starts shaking it doesn't seem to help until the bike sits to cool down for a while till it will go away, once it is hot again there it goes shaking . I have saw somewhere that the cfmoto 244cc comes with 26gr factory but want to make sure it. It has a bigger roller than some of the other bikes 23x18, can someone verify this for me?

This is a age old debate that can be confusing, is this the vertical CN250 engine or the CF250 engine? Both engines are supposed to be the same but there are a few differences and it can be the roller weights? here is a listing for roller weights from ScrappyDog: .scrappydogscooters.com/CF250_Water_cooled_parts.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">.scrappydogscooters.com/CF250_Water_cooled_parts.htmlLook at the belt listings. See what it says for the first belt listings? Now again both engines are vertical and look identical but one actually uses 24 X 18 rollers and it's a common thought that the CF250 uses 23 X 18 and that size roller will work in both engines? 24 X 18 is a lot harder to find. You'll even see Scrappy listing 23 X 18 as for both. Common sense would tell you that 23 X 18 would fit both. You see both sizes listed here: .monsterscooterparts.com/sliding-roller-weights.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">.monsterscooterparts.com/sliding-roller-weights.htmlSo what to do? Take her a part and measure and weigh the rollers, don't take a chance a mic is cheap and it takes only a moment to measure them. With less than 2k in miles they'll not have enough wear to make a difference. Don't have a gram scale? go to a jeweler or the post office and weigh them, weigh rollers one at a time and all together. Generally the OEM weight for this engine is 26g. Once you weigh them I would if they are very close to 26g go to 22g which is listed for both sizes on that site. Also shop around you may find a better price? Reason for a 4g drop? I live in the Ozarks like you and my linhai came with 14g standard rollers and I went to 11g sliders. Didn't lose any top end and I can pull Petit Jean Mountain at a nice speed since the change and you're area in Van Buren is no different as far as the hills go. JR

Thanks JR that is exactly what I needed to know. I will take it all apart this week and take them to the post office and see what they are now, and get some new ones ordered! Thanks, this forum has been very helpful.

After a ride today bike seemed to be leaking coolant from the hose on top of the waterpump and maybe oil? Hope it isn't too bad, I just switched to 5w40 Castroil syntec synthetic everything was tight so maybe it was just coolant leaking. I'm going to change it out anyway with some fresh new coolent just in case the previous owners never did. Took the cvt apart today and change the gear oil to 75 - 90w Penns synthetic. Took the variator down and is there supposed to be black grease covering the inside sides. The rollers look pretty clean just wondering if I should leave all that junk on there or wash all of it off?

Just weighed. 0.9 oz each and 5.2 total. Which is like 25.5-24.5 grams or so each. So thinking about 20 or 22 gr sliders

My math makes it 25.65, which is close enough to the OEM 26. So your 2o or 22 sounds reasonable.

Two things, my thoughts is going all the way down to 20g is going to lose some top end for you, we'll see. Lastly the oil/water pump set up is run off of the same shaft on this engine, water pump on one side, oil pump on the other. If you find oil/coolant together you have one of two possibilities
Blown or about to blow head gasket Water pump/oil seal leaking. The water pump comes apart and there is an oil seal right behind it that keeps the oil in the crankcase and out of the coolant. It's right behind the impeller.
Not going to get into the what oil is better debate but I'm going to say this, many a nothing wrong with it scooter has had oil leaking issues of some type when switching from conventional oil to synthetic. Myself I can't/don't throw my money away on oil that is over $5 a quart on what is basically a lawn mower engine. Got 5 scooters with one over 15k with plain old dino oil.
I would not ignore the leak and I would check the coolant for any sign of oil in it. We have a burping procedure in the tech section and use a good 50/50 premix like Prestone.
With sliders use NO grease, they are self lubricating. Do grease the variator shaft but don't use too much.

Well I own a mechanic shop so it was just some extra we had there probably got it on special a while back, thought it might make a hair more hp lol. I will change out the coolant tomorrow and see if there is any oil sitting on top. I am not too worried about loosing a little top end as long as it can get to 55 or 60 pretty fast, the main road I drive is hwy 59 and the speed limit is 55 so not being able to go over 60 will keep me from getting in trouble. I think the leak was just coolant because I was going too fast down a hill haha had the speedo maxed out way past 80 which was probably about 75 mph because my speedo is off. Just ordered two new 12v 35/35w Phillip bulbs from Hong Kong for $5.88 shipped for both! Hope its brighter than these 25w

Just got some 22g rollers. Ordered from dan at scooterpartsexpress.com, he sent roller instead of sliders by mistake but was very quick to make it right. I decided to keep the rollers and get the 22g sliders as well just in case the 20g was too light, he was nice enough to get me a discount and send out the other set for the mix up. I'll let you guys know how they do! Can't wait to get them in. Planning on driving up to eureka springs next weekend if everything goes well which should be about a 3 hr each way drive!

My Jonway YY250T came with 23 x 18 weights that measured at 24.5 grams. I installed 19 gram Dr. Pulley sliders. Low end acceleration was greatly improved and I can still pull 70 mph. I think this was the ideal weight for my scoot.

Yup cruiser I think your right! These things are great! I just fixed the coolant leak a hose started coming off. Haven't drove enough to test the top speed but did 60 mpg going up a slight hill. These 20g rollers make it feel like it has a stall converter love it. Also just got a helmet, wanted a full face so went with the matte black Shoei Rf-1100, love it so far.
