In my Piaggio fly owner manual, for the oil change they ask to put 5W40 Synthetic.
It's very hard to find here, i go to a motocycle shop and i buy 10W40 Synthetic.

Do you think is going to change something for the motor???

I don't drive in winter, here in Montreal, in October i put the scooter in the garage for 6 months!

10w40 is fine do not worry

I use 5w40 diesel motor oil, Shell Rotella synthetic in my Sidecar rig, my Buddy 170i,and my Coolster ATV. Alleyoop
is also correct. 10w40 is good too. I use 5w because of the steep hills that I ride on and synthetic because it is slicker.

New concept to me. What does 5w have to do with steep hills (of which I have lots)? I thought the 5W part just meant that the oil stays fluid at very cold temperatures.

You are correct. I will still use 5w however. We do get some cold weather here in the winter time but after 5 months of
daily rain in the area I am thinking about selling my hack and 170i and buying a boat.

Well, 5w-40 certainly can't hurt, should be good from frigid cold all the way to sweltering. Was just wondering if you knew something about the steep hill thing that I could learn from, since I'm troubled by wimpy hill performance too. If switching to a different oil would help significantly I'd sure do it. Oil is cheap.

I started using 5W on the advise of my riding buddy, normally gets hot here in the summer but nothing like AZ, and we do have some mountain roads that we ride on. My Buddy 170i handles them well. No secrets, just habit, I guess.
