I'm starting to think the rectifier is bad because, before I bought it the guy that had it before me was running it on a dead battery he just kept jump starting it. Is this a possibility?

Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk Wait a minute SO you just got that SCOOT and you have never had it running YET is that RIGHT? Yes if he was starting it with a jump start the battery is then SHOT and most likely the RECTIFIER is shot as well. Ok, this is a different story IF YOU HAVE NEVER YET HAD IT RUNNING YOURSELF. So if he got it running by jump starting it and it ran then the CDI is AC fired otherwise with a bad battery and not charging it is NOT A DC CDI which requires the battery to be good and charged and when you turn the KEY ON it sends 12v to the CDI to power it. So now that we now this JUST to make sure it will run JUMP the BATTERY with a car BUT NOT RUNNING and see if it fires. Alleyoop

Thanks for your reply, no it was running when I bought it after I put a battery in it. But he was starting it like that before I bought it because the battery was dead. Anyway I replaced the stator and pickup and still no start. So I've replaced everything now and still nothing. I'm getting so frustrated.. Thanks for your replys.

Have you traced down all the wire going from spark plug to starter relay and R/R (that whole harness of wires) maybe a broken wire or short somewhere

It would be nice to have a wiring diagram, and does the starter relay control spark to the plug?

The starter relay supplies power to turn starter over, is your starter engaging or just spinning, could be a bad starter, or loose wire, if its not turning, the esiest way to tell is to connect a single jumper cable (wire) to the larger electrical lug on the starter, then tap the other and to the positive terminal of battery, if it spins, then starter is good, then it could be a bad or faulty starter relay.

I had a strange thing happen to me yesterday, I have 1983 650 heritage motorcycle, tried starting it and it would not fire, I even saw using my kick starter and nothing, then I discover the kill switch was on, (but it allowed the starter to spin) I'm just wondering if your kill switch is shorting out or a wire is touch enough to allow the starter to turn by not give it juice.

Ok, Look at your CDI or put a picture up here of it. ON THE TWO PLUG side the TOP WIRE is there a BLACK AND WHITE WIRE plugged in? If so take that wire out and see if you then get SPARK. Alleyoop

The wires are, brown w/black, black w/yellow, green, yellow w/blue, and white w/green. And I don't know how to post pics. But if I'm looking at my plug on my cdi, the top row only has the brown w/black in it.
