I have 20500 mile on mine & have never replaced anything, but the spark plug & the regular maint stuff when it comes to the engine..I have adjusted the valves twice in that time & it's still running strong....I change my oil every 1000 miles...

rcq78, you give me hope that I can dodge the "adjust the valves" bullet for awhile yet. I'm just shy of 4500 miles, all running smoothly, hoping for many more miles before I start getting symptoms of valve issues. I too change oil at 1000, plan to change gear oil at 5000 (changed it once around 500). Considering all the plastic hassles, when the valves come due I may just pay the piper at the local shop, HATE that plastic-pulling part.

I know what you mean by the plastic part ellpee...What I do is,when I pull it out from winter storage in the spring,I pull all the plastics off & Do things that I feel need to be done...One year I pulled the float out of the gas tank ,because the little clip that holds the float to the sending unit was on to tight & the float won't move freely...So,the float would stick & not read right, until the tank was almost empty....So,I pried it back off just a bit....I also installed a electronic fuel pump & trashed the vacuum fuel pump....I replace all bulbs with led's except the head lights, which I replaced with 50wx50w bulbs, which are just about as bright as my truck headlights...I also in stalled a led light on my truck which is 15" long & has 11 led's in it,the 2 end ones & middle led's stay lit then when I apply the brakes all 11 come on...You can never have enough lights on a 2 wheeled vehicle....

also ellpee,it's not the hard of a job to adjust the valves, after the plastic is off....I just did mine for the 2nd time this spring...I went about 15,000 mile between & it really didn't show signs of needing it,but i didn't want to have to do it in the middle of the summer & lose riding time......You just need to make sure you have both of the timing marks lined up where they should be...Then it's just adjusting the intake valve (which is on top) at .004 & exhaust valve (which is on the bottom)at .006 with a feeler gauge....

Well I picked it up yesterday they said they test rode it. I didn't see that on the odometer. I rode about 9 miles, when it started backfiring. Losing power before 40 mph. It takes about 45 seconds to get to speed limit 40. I have to be careful because it wants to stall then backfires. Stopped at a gas station and had trouble starting. Kept backfiring real loud. Couldn't ride without stalling. Finally It started but could not go fast without backfiring/ stalling so I decided to ride the last mile home on the sidewalk. Got pulled over for that and explained to the cop what was going wrong so he followed me in the street. It took 15 minutes to get to my house, I was only a half mile away. It kept stalling and backfiring REALLY loud

Hey it's been a while since my last update. I've had the valves, replaced. Had an intake leak fixed. Couple valve seals as well. Bike is running great no problems except I just can't keep it from over heating. Please help
