Storing my scoot for the winter. Is it better to run the engine every so often or just let it chill (after proper winterizing) until I'm ready to resume regular riding?

It doesn't hurt any, but if you've properly winterized it I wouldn't see it as necessary? JR

Here many do what I do, if you have easy access to your scoot just start it once a week or once every two weeks and let it warm up, the results is as if you had been riding it. The motor will get nice and hot which is what you want just idling since there is no air being blown over the motor as when your riding it. It will lubricate the rockers, cam and chain, the crank and bearings and the oil seals. Also the carbs small passages will not get varnished up and keep them free flowing. When a motor sits it will get moister in it and the only way to get it out is run the motor long enough to burn the moister off. I have built many an engine I could tell that it sat for a while as you could tell looking at the cylinder. The worst thing you can do to any motor is let it sit. Customers bikes I work on those that ride daily have less trouble then those the ride them a couple times a month. I ride mine year round but if you live where it snows a lot I can understanding not riding only when there is snow on the roads.

I have my scoot in the garage with the car. I try to not go more than two weeks. As stated above it helps keep the lube working and also keeps the battery topped up. I keep reading that not keeping the battery charged up is actually bad for them and shortens their life. For me to go into the garage and run the scoot for a while is not a big deal. .
