I was replacing my fuel filter and fuel pump this afternoon when I realized that the hose on the back of the carb, going to the air filter, was separated from the carb. I tried everything to get the hose back on the carb and just when I'd have it attached, I'd try and tighten the brass hose clamp and couldn't seem to get it tight enough, so the hose would eventually vibrate back off. It's as if the hose isn't long enough to reach from the airbox to the carb (or perhaps it's shrunk ). Even using a standard, stainless steel hose clamp, I had trouble getting the hose to stay on. I could at least get the ss clamp tighter but it doesn't fit into the pre-formed clamp groove very well and "chews up" the hose a little. Just wondering if anyone else has run into this issue, or if there are any suggestions for why the hose seems to be to short to cover the distance now???

I do not understand WHY they do not give you a little longer snot on the Air filter side of the carb.
But do this:
Disconnect it from the other end and work it onto the Carb ALL THE WAY so it butts up against the body of the carb then tighten it up with the clamp. Then hook it up at the other end where you will have a little play with it. The tubing has a little according to it so stretch it out some. If on the other end you still have a problem go to the hardware store and or auto parts store and get a short piece of hose that will go over the hose going to the carb to extend it. Alleyoop

FWIW, when I got to messing with the carb on my Magnum, I discovered that the bolts that are supposed to hold the air filter box in position were loose (1) or not functioning because the metal bracket had broken off. I re-tightened the one bolt with LocTite but found it loose again a few days later. The filter box is now held by a couple zip ties in addition to that one bolt, and so far so good. Don't know if your setup is the same as the Magnum, and I haven't actually had any problems with the hose, though that front (carb end) clamp does indeed need to be cranked down really tight.

I have a DF300TKB that has this exact motor. To make mine not come off, I noticed that there were notches on the air cleaner end of the hose and one of them was in the wrong spot. Also, the hose was a little long so it didn't want to stay on the carb. I trimmed the long end about a 1/4" and made the correct notch on the air cleaner side. Not looking at yours, you may need to see if your hose is too long, and which end would be best to trim. The other bike at the shop had the hose with the right length, but no notches. Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the suggestions. On my particular bike, the air hose has a pre-formed collar (best description I could come up with) that snaps into the air box, so there is no play what so ever. To fix the problem, I used a rubber plumbing coupler from the local hardware store to create enough extension to cover the separation gap.
There's no telling how long the disconnect happened before I found it, but it's patched up for now.
