Thanks for all the suggestions. On my particular bike, the air hose has a pre-formed collar (best description I could come up with) that snaps into the air box, so there is no play what so ever. To fix the problem, I used a rubber plumbing coupler from the local hardware store to create enough extension to cover the separation gap.
There's no telling how long the disconnect happened before I found it, but it's patched up for now.

I was replacing my fuel filter and fuel pump this afternoon when I realized that the hose on the back of the carb, going to the air filter, was separated from the carb. I tried everything to get the hose back on the carb and just when I'd have it attached, I'd try and tighten the brass hose clamp and couldn't seem to get it tight enough, so the hose would eventually vibrate back off. It's as if the hose isn't long enough to reach from the airbox to the carb (or perhaps it's shrunk ). Even using a standard, stainless steel hose clamp, I had trouble getting the hose to stay on. I could at least get the ss clamp tighter but it doesn't fit into the pre-formed clamp groove very well and "chews up" the hose a little. Just wondering if anyone else has run into this issue, or if there are any suggestions for why the hose seems to be to short to cover the distance now???

Thanks for the responses.
...unfortunately for me, I'd already removed the exhaust pipe (along with the muffler) when I decided to double check JR's oh-so-helpful visuals ~ just color me a brain surgeon.
I guess it's off to locate a pinch gasket in my little one horse town...this may take longer than the tire change.

Hi all,
I realize this is an older post but I'm currently replacing my tires. I was wondering if any of you needed to replace the exhaust gasket before reinstalling the muffler?
Thanks in advance.
