I've read often here that CDI's come in AC and DC, but I don't think I've ever seen it stated flat out whether my 2011 Roketa with the horizontal 244 engine is AC or DC. Is there one answer, or could it be either, and if the latter, what's the easiest way to tell?

Get a 12V Light Tester or volt meter and turn the key on and test the bottom power wire on the CDI, if Light Tester lights up or Volt meter registers 12v you have a DC CDI. On scoots with a DC CDI the motor will NOT RUN if the battery is out or bad. Alleyoop

It's DC I can tell you for sure on this scooter.

Thanks, JR. And for Alley:
"On scoots with a DC CDI the motor will NOT RUN if the battery is out or bad."
So scoots with an AC CDI WILL run with the battery out? Interesting. I presume they have to have a kick starter, though, ja? Mine doesn't; no juicey, no crankey.
