I'm new to so please forgive me if I'm misunderstood... I have a 2009 150cc gas scooter. The make is rhon, I can't seem to find any exact parts. I let my sister use my scooter for a few months and she lost the keys . Some kind of way she rigged it up to start w/o the key . I removed the ignition switch to find that I need a new ignition key switch. I wanted to know if I should replace the key switch first before going through any other troubleshooting? The engine is not getting any spark. I replaced the battery and spark plug because both were bad. Also I'm having a hard time locating the parts to it that looks exactly the same. If anyone can help me or direct me to the right place. Please!!!!

They are all Chinese scoots and they put different parts on them, but they all are pretty much the same. You need to put up a picture of the part you need to match it up. They have to many iginiton sets so you need to get one that will at least match the wiring. But I have to ask does your key also open up your seat or trunk or glove box. Reason I ask is you would need to get the entire set and replace all the locks. Alleyoop

Okay I wasn't sure about the type b/c haven't seen any parts exactly the same. I've seen a few w/ similar wiring. I will post some pics. I've taken most of it apart. The key was the same to both, so I guess I would need to find the locks also? Can that switch cause other malfunctions? I know a little more about cars and I know 1 thing can trigger other issues, just not sure about scooters.

Yes the switch can cause other problems, lights not working, not able to turn the motor off with the key etc..
But will not start is very generic.
Need to know details:
a. when you turn the key on and squeeze the brake and push the start button does it spin your starter?
If so then it is either fuel delivery problem, spark problem or compression problem.
So please tell us exactly what happens when you try to start it. That will help diagnose what part of the system may be causing the problem. Alleyoop

Here are some photos of it. When the key is turned on, only the signal and horn works. The lights doesn't come on and the starter doesn't spin. I changed the spark plug but I'm still getting nothing. Sometimes the gas hand will move. I checked the battery power and its giving good voltage when I apply the break and try to start it. Attachments:

I've taken most of it apart to replace the switch and to check the power sources. It seems like a bad starter but I checked it and its fine. Attachments:

To post more pics just do this:

pic 2
Pic 3
Ok so the ignition is getting juice since when you turn it on the horn works and signals work.
Ok with the key on: Q1. If you squeeze the brakes do the stoplights come on? Q2. If you push the start button and squeeze the brake does your starter spin and turn the motor over? Q3. If you jump the Solenoid(touch both terminals with a wire or screwdriver or pliers) does it spin your starter. Q4. Is your killswitch on the RUN POSITION? Q5. Is your Sidestand in the UP position(some have a killswitch on the sidestand) and it has to be up.
Please answer the questions to help diagnose. Alleyoop

Ok to answer your questions. Q1: yes Q2: no Q3: I'm still working on it. I'm trying to get to the starter to test it. I was trying to avoid taking any more panels off but I think I need to. I'm doing tht now. I'll reply in a second with the outcome.

BUMMER!! So when you say the starter works but does not turn the engine. Are you saying you just hear a whirring sound and the CRANK is not turning and moving the PISTON UP AND DOWN.
OR
Do you mean The CRANK IS TURNING and the Piston is Moving up and down but WILL NOT START? Need to Clarify because makes a big difference of what is wrong. Alleyyop

I hear the starter but it will not turn the engine. It cranks, its not completely silent like it is when I push the start button. So what's this is what's happening. I hope I'm clear, forgive me if I'm not.
With the break pressed Switch in the ON position Ignition in the ON position Kick stand up Park break light is on (light on panel and back break light) Signals work Battery is also putting out 12.94volts Jumping the solenoid gives cranking sound but does not turn the engine
The engine just will not turn over, it sounds like it wants to but it will not turn over at all. I'm getting a crank though.
