Currently dealing with a ?fuel system? issue on almost brand new Magnum, but this is really a generic comment. The Magnum has a small two-screw "hatch" under the seat that gives a little bit of access to the front end of the carb. I cut a second hatch in the plastic of what I suppose is intended as under-seat storage, so I can now see pretty much all of the airbox, carb, and intake manifold. I'm now thinking of cutting away even more plastic, so I have one big access panel that lets me see and work on the entire top of the engine. I would replace the cut-away plastic with one continuous "hatch cover" of somewhat flexible and, ideally, transparent plastic. As far as I can see, that plastic pan under the seats has nothing to do with structural integrity, so there's no reason not to do this.
Questions: Does anybody think this is a BAD idea, has anybody done anything similar, and are there any kits or what have you available on the Internet for this kind of modification.
