Hey all, I hope somebody can advise me on what I should do to fix my rear break light problem. My riding instructor on Saturday at my ERC/BRC2 class pointed out that my rear break light didn't seem to be working properly e.g. no matter how much I squeeze the breaks, the LEDs won't turn off.
Is there a connection or fuse I can check to fix this problem?

Maybe you have a bad brake switch staying on

I had the same problem, look on the bottom on your brake levers, there is a small post not touching The lever, you will also see a small screw, back off screw slightly, push the box in, till touching the lever, tighten the screw. Hope you get the right one first. Had to lay on my back to see the underside. This worked on my YY250T.

Squirt a little WD-40 into the Switch where your brake pushs the switch in and work it a little it may just be stuck.

I pulled off the plastics pulled out one of the wires coming from the left break handle and now my break lights work, the interlock now works (it never did before), and a red light on the dash, which used to always remind on when ever I turned the key in the ignition, now only remains illuminated when I hold one of the breaks.

Honestly, I can't say for certain if my break lights ever worked, and if my riding instructor hadn't pointed it out, I might still not have noticed to this day.

Any ideas, about what the wire that I pulled out is supposed to be for?

No way of telling put up a picture of what you did, or at least the color of the wire.

In the picture there are two lime green Y-connectors. The one on the far right has two black wires entering it and the one next it has just one yellow wire attached. The green wire I removed is shown next to this Y-connector.

I also forgot to mention that my front break handle does not effect my rear break lights when squeezed, so I wonder if perhaps it might not be wired correctly?

I notified JR he is the Electrical guru. Once he gets on and sees what you have I am sure he can fix you up.

In your picture you have the typical brake light set up for a scooter. You have two of the "Y" or what is called single to double bullet connectors looking like this and with a plastic cover on them:



In your picture you will notice a plug with black wires plugged into it. This is the 12Vdc feed from the key switch (single wire) with the key on.

The wire then splits via the 2 to 1 bullet connector with one wire going to the left brake switch and the other to the right side.

Also in your picture you have a second 2 to 1 bullet connector which should have two green/yellow wires hooked in and going to a single green/yellow. This is the voltage return from each brake light switch when either brake handle is pressed with the key on. This green/yellow wires also splits to go to one side of the starter relay, that's why you must have a brake handle pressed to start the scooter.

The green yellow goes to each brake/tail light bulb and the starter relay.

So if you press either brake handle it should turn the brake lights on and also supply voltage to the starter solenoid. Then you press the start button and it'll run. It appears one green/yellow wire is gone from the bullet connectors in your picture?

Yes, the yellow/green wire just to the left of that particular bullet connector is the one I disconnected in order for the break light to work properly. Prior to this, the engine interlock never worked, nor did the red light on my dash do anything but remain on when the engine was running.

P.S. I said above that the wire I removed was green, but upon closer inspection I now see that it is in fact both green and yellow.

Thanks for your help JR, and everybody else who offered their opinions. It looks like I either need to repair my front break switch or simply leave well alone, seeing as I don't really need both switches to work anyway.

I would not do that and here's why. These switches are cheaply made and should the other one go out then you then will lose your electric start function and it happens, has to me. It also will do it in the most untimely matter or place. I was on a long trip once, pulled up to a gas station, the right side switch went out which is the primary one I use and it didn't take me but a minute to figure this out.

Plus if both are out no brake light even if you kick start it, that's a scary thought with a cager behind you. My other thought is if you unplugged one and the system started working right it's very possible the other switch or the wires on it may be grounding out?

They are cheap, I would replace it IMO.

I am sure if I am up to changing the switch myself, so I'll probably just have take it back to my dealer and have him do it. The parts are covered under warranty.
Of course the fact that I don't think the switch ever worked, I kind of feel my dealer should fix it for free.

Any idea about how much I should expect to pay my dealer?
