Did I get the wrong belt, or am I just not able to compress the spring on the clutch end enough? I resized the picture it was to big and causing to scroll left and right. Alleyoop

It looks like the clutch isn't open enough. Most people are able to get enough clearance by using both hands and squeezing the clutch assembly to open it up. Some clutches can be very stiff. I use a large screw driver or a tire iron inserted into the bottom of the belt groove and pry the clutch halves apart while turning the clutch assembly. The belt should be down inside the clutch sheaves far enough to allow it to slip over the variator.
BTW: what size belt did you get?

I think the belt is the wrong size if you ask me, even if you get the belt down 1/2 inch down between the Clutch pulley I don't think it will still go over the Variator Boss.
What size belt is that? Alleyoop

The belt I got is an 828 22.5 from Scrappy Dog Scooters. I was pleased that it go here so fast, but now I'm thinking I got the wrong belt.
Do I need the 868 or the 1000?

Completely shredded unfortunately. I'm pretty convinced I need the 1000 belt now, I don't think 40mm would make much of a difference, but 178 would.

Duggelbogey, u are positive u have the 244 engine. you have correct belt for the 244 cc engine and obviously its way to short. when not running or idleing, the belt will run near to top of clutch and bottom of variator. looks like u have the linhai 257 engine of which take the 856 23 30 belt which would be longer than the one u have. I know as I just put dr pulley sliders in mine Friday and my linhai 257 uses the 856 belt. do u have the horizontal engine (linhai257) or verticle engine(244) hope this helps. Barnie
