hello----i have a rocketa mc 54-250b chineese scooter
i seem to be having a strange problem that i cant easily trace down----------with the key turned on i have tail lights lit up like normal along with the headlight------
now the problem, when i squeeze either brake lever the brake lights do not come on and the tail lights blink off as long as the lever is held---when released the tail lights come back on..
i have replaced both tail light bulbs and both brake lever switches to no avail----one of the switches was def bad
after looking at the wiring print this circuit seems to be hooked in with many other lights
any help as to where i should disconnect and check power or continuity
thanks in advance

First, what kind of scoot you have, the vertical engine or the horizontal engine? if you have the 244cc vertical engine check the fuse box and fuse to make sure there working, sometime even when they look good they are bad. Make sure all your connection are plug in and tight.

Yes I've got to know which engine and unless you have a on/off headlight switch which only a couple of this copy does then your headlights should not come on at all when just turning the key on. Let me know on both of these questions and Welcome to the forum! JR

I'm re-posting this any time I see a problem that might even remotely be related:
FWIW, I recently bought a new Roketa MC-54-250B and had some self-inflicted electrical problems. One of the things I found that contributed to ultimately getting everything running again was that the little slot connectors in the fusebox under the seat were pushed down out of position, so the blades of the fuses were getting questionable contact. I pushed/pulled those slot connectors back into proper position and paid close attention when reinserting the fuses, so as not to push the connectors out of position again. Presto, everything worked like it was supposed to. No idea if that is part of YOUR problem, but based on my experiences its worth checking anyhow. Two-minute job.

thanks for the welcome
i know that its a linhai engine--i think horizontal,, and it does not have a fuse box but has the 2 main fuses only
the headlight switch only switches between bright and dim----no on/off switch-----when i turn the key on the headlights and tail come on and blinkers work
i will check tonight and confirm all of this but im pretty certain of all of that

No fuse box, no on/off headlight switch and linhai means head and tail lights only working when engine is running. With just key on then you have the following that will work:
brake lights horn turn signals radio instrument lights side marker lights by the headlights license plate light.
So let me know if the headlights do come on, if so then we'll find out whay.

It sounds like you mighty have a short in the wiring that feeds the brake lights. Trace the wiring going from the Brake switch to the lights. Also see if all the connectors are mating correctly.

sorry for the late reply
JR you are correct---the headlights do not come on with the key--only when engine runnning do the headlights come on
when i turn the key on (i belive the larger filimant) of the brake/tail lights is on and then when you hit the brake lever it blinks off
with bike running both filimants are on and when you hit the brake the smaller filament dims but does not go off
thanks for all the replies ---sounds like i need to start tracing the wire

UPDATE: well i figured out the problem and i feel so stupid about it that i almost dont want to even post it but i guess i will in case anyone else comes along that is as brain-dead as me. i basically thought the brake switches worked opposite from the way they do---squeezing the lever releases the little button on the switch out,,,, and lets electrical continuity through to light the brake circuit. i had 2 bad switches that were not getting continuity through them at all when i got the new switches i just plugged them into the wires and let them dangle (in other words --brakes on)--- this was my error when i was testing i was just pushing the little button on the switch thinking that was the same as squeezing the lever everything was working correctly the whole time if i had just bothered to mount up the switches sorry for wasting anyones time with my ignorance and thanks for the help anyway

Hey don't worry about it! Now if someone does this they'll know how to do this.

glad you figure it out i was gonna suggest checking the sockets for the brake lights as they are cheaply made and can short out within them

esj001, I think we all have done dumb things, I know I have and still do sometimes, but glad you figured out what you did wrong, see your learning.
