Guys!! i found the issue i think!! i pulled the clutch (after some strong persuasion) and the rear bear of the clutch assymbly was seized on the spindle. once i pried the beaing off the spindle all the tumblers fell out. lucky for me we have a good parts shop in town (Partsforchinesescooters) that has a lot of the parts in stock. going to get one now. ill post pics of the issue for all once im done tonight.

Yeah!! bad news is i think they gave me the CFMoto version clutch instead of the Linhai. the inner radius of the bearing is less than the radius of the Linhai. back to the shop i go tomorrow.
But on a lighter note i want to thank you guys for sticking with me through this and a special thanks to you Alleyoop. You pointed me in the right direction.

OK Guys, I just finished replacing the clutch and a new belt since i was in there. i took it for a test ride just to the end of the steet with the cover off and its not running well. as I accelerate it seems to be very sluggish and if it had mutliple pistons I would say it was misfiring. Once it gets up a little it seems to want run a little better but nothing close to normal.
here is a video of the new clutch and sound.
thanks!

Hi Guys it seems that the cluth and clutch bell are spinning properly. the bell stays put while the clutch spins until the rpms are raised. there is a grinding noise (in the last video) that isnt normal. additionally its running poorly now. I'm thinking this could be related to the original issue where the clutch had seized and wasnt allowing the rear wheel to turn. when we tried to move the bike it was forcing the engine to turn. I'm thinking i messed the timing up and now may need a valve adjustment.
thank you both replying. with out you guys to bounce thoughts off of this would really be a nitemare.

robert1c, as I watch that video, I notice that the belt in the clutch is in the wrong position, at idle belt should be be fully extended to the end of clutch pulley, the clutch looks like its already open at idle.

Not just that, but the variator looks to be fully extended at idle. With the variator extended, it's like trying to takeoff in 2nd or 3rd gear, which explains the sluggishness.

I didn't see this thread looking like it was resolved-
So, I just want to say that i followed this thread, because before -and-after installing new Dr. Pulley sliders in place of my old rollers that had flat spots worn in them, my clutch seemed to be engaged as well, but only seemed as if one shoe/pad on the clutch was catching at idle no matter how slow I adjusted the idle. The scooter (Linhai Aeolus 300) was not ride-able.
After several times of taking it all off and looking for problems (except I did not reopen up the variator to look at the new sliders I had installed), I finally decided to open the variator and low and behold all the sliders had fallen out of place. I was baffled.
However, after looking at things for a bit, I realized that when putting the variator back on the scooter I must have slid the whole thing far enough apart inside the variator (more than it would on normal operation) and they dropped out of place.
Apparently one or some of them were keeping the variator pulley in a position that it would be in if operating at a higher speed than idle.
Once I took it off again, saw all of the sliders out of place, repositioned them correctly, and *carefully* installed the variator assembly on the scooter- EUREKA! that issue was fixed.
So, hopefully if someone else stumbles across this thread in the process of working with their variator and has the same symptoms- and hasn't resolved it yet- here you go. Another thing to look at.
Thanks, cloudsifter
