I know the Vog 260 has the 257cc engine same at the MC-54-250b scooter. My question is the MC-54-250b scooter stock belt is listed as: 870-22-30 The Vog 260 belt is listed as: 890-23 Can I put a 890-23 belt on a MC-54-250b scooter?? Take a look at the Vog 260 pretty different the MC-54-250b. Check out where the air box is on that thing...

I do not think so reason is that is quite a big difference in length also the width is wider on the VOG. The width wouldn't be so bad but 870 vs 890 is quite a jump, usually if your going to try a longer belt you would only go about 10mm longer. So either of two things is different on the VOG the Clutch Pulley is bigger in Diameter or the case is a little longer.
MC-54-250b 870-22-30
The Vog 260 belt is listed as: 890-23-30 Alleyoop

Don't know where the 870 listing came from? The only two belts I've ever seen for the 257 linhai is 871 and 856. I run the 856 on both of my 250's. The engine is the same for the VOG so why wouldn't the belt be?
890? No way.

The belt on the bike is a Gates 856-23; Roketa's parts breakdown calls for 870-22-30; The reason I ask is that I hear a squealing sound every time I start from a stop -- the squeal continues until I'm moving about 10 MPH or let off on the throttle. It sure SOUNDS like a slipping belt, but I'm open to the possibility that it could be the clutch. I have carefully cleaned the belt, variator, and clutch surfaces with solvent, as well as buffing up the variator surfaces with fine steel wool. Also checked the rollers, which seem OK. On the center stand, the rear wheel turns pretty freely with no squeak. The bike has around 3000 miles on it, and the belt appears to be in good condition. I'd appreciate any advice on correct belt size, or the likely cause of the noise if it might be something other than the belt. Thanks Dawgs!" If the stock belt is a Gates 856-23 looks like a 870-22-30 would give me better top speed but the width 22m would be decreased? Think I should do it?

Another post from someone: "22.5, 23 and even 24 widths are all the same width belt. it is just the different manufacturers and their nomenclature. An 870 is the same as the 871. 871 length is still made, but for whatever reason, it wound up in short supply at this time. Your dealer didn't want to spend a lot of time trying to find one. You can use the 856 on up to a longer belt as much as 896 in length, but the longest belts may have some belt slap against rhe CVT case. A longer belt results in a slightly higher top speed and a shorter belt results in a slightly slower top speed. The manufacturers were putting on whatever belt they happen to be able to get when they were manufacturing the engines. I saw at least three different belt sizes on my scooter already." Do you think a 860x22.3 belt work better then the 871? Also found a 890x23 Found a 865x22 The stock belt is the 856. I also found a 877x23 belt.

On the cheap belts the specs will be all over the place just like he mentioned but on a quality Gates powerlink belt if it says 22.5 mm then you can measure it and it will be a 22.5mm belt. I also have a 07 250A along with a 08 250B and they both came with 856 belts both quality Gates powerlinks. The linhai is the linhai doesn't matter what year they were made and a lot of the 06 models came with the 871 belts. I also disagree with the 22.5 is the same as a 24mm thing and they just used what was on the shelf. I've never seen anything myself on the linha clone scooter but a 856 or 871 and I know for sure Earl's came with a 871. I'll also disagree with a 896, it'll not only slap around but more than likely will slip badly. Now on the question of what performance difference you will have. The 856 will give a better take off and less top end and the 871 will do the opposite. Now the linhai variator and clutch was designed to run with a 23mm belt. Specs say that belt replacement should be done or considered at around 10% wear on the belt. So 10% on a 23mm belt = 2.3mm. By placing a 22.5mm belt on you are already at the replacement level spec. A 24mm belt might help on the top end but needs to be in the 856 to 871 range but I don't know of a 24mm wide belt in that range or with the right angle pitch of 30? A 22mm belt won't run untill the water is hot and will soon be slipping especially in hot weather. Lastly the statement of 870 is the same as a 871? Sorry difference is 871 is 1mm longer and the 871 comes in a 23mm width, the 870 doesn't. Also to let you know some have already tried some of your belt suggestions and some have ended up on the side of the road in 90F+ weather with the pleasure of cleaning out the mess in the CVY cover along with spending more hard earned money to buy the right one.
