The story: Bought 1st scooter for 650. got it home and the head light tail lights (light up when bake applied but not full time) the seller gave me 150 back. its my first bike and i love and want to keep it. The bike: 06 SunL adventure 150cc 212 miles when bought 2 weeks ago now 315 brand new light bulbs all the way around brand new carb original R/R plus 2 ordered online (heard some come bad) Brand new 6 pole stator. What the lights are doing: Blinkers/horn work fine When I give the bike 50% throttle the head/tail lights light up but only about 20% (that includes head and tail lights) I (through the advise of forum members on another site) was told it was the R/R. replaced and no luck. Then I got me MM and tested volts. I have about 14vac off the white wire and 4vac off the yellow wire right off the stator. (goes up with rpm but not much) I ran hthe lights off the battery with a 10amp fuse and the light up bright!!! (head and tail) This is before I replaced the stator) I road for about 15 miles then the battery died (i was so upset.. had to leave her on the side of the road all night) What I know: I know that I am running out of cash. I know that the 8 and 11 pole stators the local scoot shop had did not fit inside my flywheel and that if I get a stator with more poles (assuming 6 isnt enough and thats my issue) It wheel need a bigger flywheel which makes me think the screw holes for the magneto wouldnt line up anymore yet all the sites say they WILL fit. I know that the local scoot shop with diagnose for 65 an hour and they r $$$ hungry and rude as hell. I know that I am at my wits end. I have never come across something I couldnt fix. (tvs cars a/c's pc's gopeds, sheet rock you get the point) I am a student no parents full time job and have takin automotive electronics 1 and 2 and am pretty smart. I have met my match lol. What do you think. I was referred here by the guys at scoot dog. Thanx in advance....

2 things... the voltage testing off the stator was the same on both stators and the stator isgrounded to the engine where the fan cover attatches. it was like that when i bought it. Is that right. the guy that soldit to me said he replaced the stator. maybe he screwed up?

Welcome 04prixgt04, Good to have you on the forum, Well you came to the right place. You will not find anyone more knowledgeable than JR and Cruiser on the Electricals on a scoot. JR owns this forum and he is a busy guy but I will email him and let him know you are having an Electrical problem. Maybe Cruiser will also chime in but they will find the problem. Again good to have you on the forum Alleyoop

thanx. I really am heart set on the bike. I also was heart set that the new stator was gonna work. I think the seller replaced an 8 pole with a six but stille the flywheel size issue doesn't make since. anywho, thanx again and glad to be here.

Will maybe that is the problem that the flywheel does not match up with the stator windings. But I am not an electrcial guru and there maybe a difference in the flywheels that is causeing the problem. I can work on electricals and know my way around but they are the experts. I am a Carb, CVT and Tranny guy the Motors are pretty simple only one Cyl and the Crank turns everything, Variator, Oil pump etc..
You may have to take the Flywheel off and check how many magnets it has and also how many poles your stator has and if any are burnt. Easy to test how many magnets the stator has once you get it off, just take a piece of metal about about an inch or so long and move it around the inside and count the magnets. Alleyoop

Well I do know that the 8 pole stators have 8 magnets, so if the stator is 8 pole and the flywheel has 6 magnets I would think that is not the right flywheel. Shit you may just need a 8 pole flywheel and all your problems would be solved. Hope it is as easy as that.
My 150 Trike has 8 pole stator and the flywheel has 8 magnets. Alleyoop

Welcome to the forum. Have read about your troubles and for sure you're not having the best of luck. OK lets start by simply saying if the voltage readings you are giving is correct the stator/s you have are toast plain and simple. Here are the correct readings as they should be: The 4Vac on the yellow wire won't cut it. Now on wiring the head/tail lights directly to the battery on a 6 or 8 pole stator is a no-no not enough amps to maintain it and the battery not happening and you need to put it back like it was. Here is the tech place for Roketa wiring diagrams and the Bali 150 will match your scooter. thescooterprofessor.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=50200g&action=display&thread=436Reason they are dim when correctly hooked up is that the yellow wire is the supply wire for the lights off of the R/R and with only 4Vac they will be very dim. Now as to the stators going to a 8-pole will give you more amps and will charge the battery a lot more effectively and the 6 magnet flywheel is a no match for the 8-pole stator. You can buy a 8-pole stator as cheap as a 6-pole one anyway. Now on the grounding it's simple the stator has a ground wire and is grouned to the engine when installed but the ground wire to the fan cover you mentioned is a MUST! This ground wire should bolt up to the fan cover, go to the frame where the negative battery cable hooks up and also where the green wire to the R/R should hook up to. Also the R/R needs to be bolted up on a clean place to properly ground also. Make sure the frame where these wires hook up are paint free and clean. If you run this scooter over 30 seconds with the engine ground unhooked you will fry one or both sides of the stator plain and simple. The engine MUST be grounded properly to the battery. When they mount the engine it's mounted via means of rubber bushing mounts thus the ground wire to the fan cover, some people ground to the valve cover, doesn't matter it needs a good ground. Personally I would upgrade to a 11-pole stator as mentioned but a 8-pole will do fine especially if you install LED bulbs and such and will do well with a good quality battery. Here is the instructions for a 11-pole upgrade: thescooterprofessor.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=elec&action=display&thread=297Tvnacman sells both setups will beat anyones price and tests his stuff before sending, I'll send him a text to let him know to check with you. We're here to help and keep us informed. JR
