I just got a 2011 Dong Fang 250cc scooter. The under-seat storage compartment does not pop open as it is supposed to. Help! What do I need to do to fix this, I really would like to utilize the storage area.

First of all welcome to the forum! So are you saying that when you put the key in the lock to open the seat it will not open at all like it's stuck in place? The locks are tied to cables that go to the front and back locking mechanisims to the seat. Sometimes they are stiff and one can give the seat a hard bang with your fist while turning the key and it'll make them let go. Also sometimes one has to turn the key almost to the point of bending it to make the latches let go. If you can get it to open by jarring it then sometims you can lube the cables and the latches to make them release better. If you can't get it to let go then you will have to try to reach under the seat and see if you can get the latches to realease by hand. JR

If you do get the seat to open by banging down over the rear latch, then plan an afternoon to take off some plastics and part of the tubs so you can check out the action of the latch itself. I did this on my scoot as it was not working properly from the day I bought it new. It actually seemed to get free after I forced the lever on the side latch to end some occasional interference. Just a bit of screw driver technology used there. Used the screwdriver as a pry bar. thescooterprofessor.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=discussion&action=display&thread=1514Not sure if your latches are cabled the same but worth looking into at the latch if you can. .

I've gotten so used to mine hanging up now and then that I can reach under the bike quicker to open it by pulling the cable than I can by using the key. LOL Suggest you use graphite powder in all your lock cylinders as well. Happy scootin'!

Have you looked up to the cable you are pulling on? Some have a adjustment setup about midway on the cable. If yours has one maybe a bit of a adjustment will make it all work from the key action again. Assuming that it once did work from the key action. .

Yep, there can be no slack on the cable inside the protective sheave. The Key only pulls on it like 1/4 of an inch if that so any slack it will not pull enough to release the latch. And they all have some adjustment to tighten or loosen it up. So once you find the adjustment leave the seat up and push the locking mechanism so it locks and then adjust the cable and try it to see if it pulls on the mechanism and releases it. Alleyoop
