So I already bothered my bike distributor for not including an installation manual with the bike, and now also for his seriously lacking maintenance manual, not even telling where or how to change the transmission and engine fluids!
Which do you think is the best fluid for:
1- The Engine (I filled it up with a generic brand 10W30) 2- Gearbox ( I used Valvoline 80W-90) 3- Brake fluid (I don't know which one to buy, but suspect I need a DOT4 fluid?)
Any corrections on the above? (I live in S florida, where the sun is always hot, if it makes any difference to the oil).
Also, should I use different oils for breaking in the bike, and later shift to different oils?
Third, the transmission oil of the BMS260 (with center spring system), is on the top of the gearbox. Most 50-150CC scooters have the oil plug on the side, so that when overfilling, the oil leaks out. I fear overfilling the gear oil on my bike, because the hole is on the top, not the side. There is what looks like an overflow on the top of the gearbox though (near to the back wheel), connected to a rubber hose.
I suspect it's an overflow, as it leads to nowhere (just a hose hanging behind the gearbox).
Anyone could give me some advise on how much oil to put in the gearbox? The mechanic told me out of the factory it should have sufficient oil, however I could easily add ~400mL of oil to it!
Now I fear I may have overfilled it. Should I worry?
thanks!

prodigit, welcome to our forum, gear oil I use the 80w90, when fill up the gear box you only need 6 to 7oz only, DOT 4 brake fluid is good, motor oil, you could use 15w40 or lower because where you live it always hot. I use 10w40. (draining gear oil) I show you where my scoot fill and drain gear oil, it may be the same

All good questions and Richard has shown you some places of where to do the gear oil.
Start with the engine;
Use a good brand (non synthetic) oil and in Florida and the heat I recommend a 10W/40W which works good in the heat ranges and since it's not very cold in Florida you'll do well wit this year round. It's new first change at 500 miles and with a good name brand oil I go every 2k from there, some people do it every 1k . I use Castrol and it has served me well. Oil is chaep compared to engine failure so use a good name brand. The scooter engine holds about 1-1/4 quart.
Coolant, drain out the Chinese junk and replace with a 50/50 premix coolant again name brand that is made for aluminum block engines, no borites, sulfites and nitrates, I use Prestone 50/50 in the yellow jug. The system holds less than 2 quarts and in the how to section is my drain plug location and engine burp, Follow it! Any air and I mean any air in the system results in a hot engine and it acting stupid.
Gear oil you used a good choice and NO MORE than 7 ounces! The Yamaha YY250P manual in the manual section gives specs for this engine as this engine is a copy of it.
Brake fluid is DOT3 and like the other nasty Chinese stuff needs replacing. There is a brake bleeding video in the video tech section and again air is a enemy of good brakes. I'm not a synthetic man but I found I really like the Preston synthetic brake fluid because it seems to give a nice solid brake yet it's softer to push the lever if that makes any sense? Comes in the yellow bottle.
Any advice or questions we're here to help.

Thank you for the advise! So there already was transmission oil in the gearbox, but I filled it up with another 13oz (400ml). So I have too much oil in there now! Problem is I can not see how much oil there's in there, only drain the oil inside, and refill it!
richardthescooter3, on your first picture, with me there's a hose on the top of the gearbox located about 1 or 2 inches to the left of that refill hole. Is this acting as an overfill protection? Meaning, if I'll start riding will it automatically dispel of the excess oil (to the ground), or will I have to drain the whole gearbox?
I only drove the bike for 2 minutes in my garden before the refill, and the gearbox was quite hot!

I only drove the bike for 2 minutes in my garden before the refill, and the gearbox was quite hot! Drain it until it will not drip a drop. The hose on top is strictly a air vent hose on the gearbox. Yep if you put 13Oz in then now you have about 20oz in and it's going to start blowing out of the vent hose and make everything oily and nasty. It DOES NOT have a level drain hole. Again this gear box only uses actually 7-1/2 ounces but I cap it at 8 ounces. The gears are a bath type oil process and the oil circulates around them from the lower part of the gearbox. I hit the wrong key ealier and told you 7 arthritis finger! Page 68 of the YY250 Service Manual tells about the replacement and amount which is 0.25L. thescooterprofessor.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=ncmanuals&action=display&thread=265JR

Do know that my scooter has the 260cc motor (257cc actually). I hope the rest is the same... Thanks for the link to the user manuals; I'll be downloading a few of them! This forum has been really helpful; I feel like I get a lot of professional responses here! Thank you all for the extra effort you put into answering many of my questions! Many thanks!

The 257cc linhai is called the 260 in the VOG (rounded up) and the 250 in the 250 A & B (rounded down). The manual is for the yamaha majesty 250 which this engine is a clone of and the specs in that manual engine wise are apples for apples.

Okay, I'm about to shoot myself in the head for yet another stupid thing I've done! So I found this tiny sticker on my gear box, right below the gear oil fill-hole, and took it off to read it (as the letters where too small to read). It described the oil used for the gearbox. It said something like 'Use only with GY6 gear oil) or something... The stupid thing was, I tried memorizing it, and threw away the sticker. Now I forgot the name of the oil. I put in 80/90 oil. What kind of other gear oil is there that sounds like GY6 or GY3 or something like that, that could be the oil I need for the gear box?
Thank you!

The 80/90 is what I use for my gear box, this oil will be fine.

What kind of other gear oil is there that sounds like GY6 or GY3 or something like that, that could be the oil I need for the gear box? Thank you! The gear oil has been a debate at times. The Hondas want plain 30W/40W motor oil in the gearbox and since this is a Honda Reflex clone scooter some will argue to use the motor oil. But this scooter has the linhai and doesn't go by specs of Honda, however the Yamaha YY250 service manual says 10W/30W motor oil. So what is right? I know people who use motor oil, don't have any issues, myself I like a lot of people use 70W to 90W GEAR oil. This is a treansfer "gear" type transmission and I'm an old maintenance hand I use "gear" oil in a "gear" box. I've had no issues either. There is no such of a thing as a GY-6 250 anything don't care what the label says. JR

i have that label on my roketa (same engine i believe)... i looked last night and the little sticker you refer to specifies GL-3 gear oil. +1 on all the recommendations to use 80/90W name-brand gear oil. ron

Something like GL-6 then? *edit: Darn! GL-3 could be right!
I'm so stupid for throwing away that sticker; but I haven't seen any GL-3 or GL-6 oil anywhere! THanks for suggesting; investigating in GL-3 oil!
