I was talking to a couple of friends the last couple of days about the heat and dry weather. It's certainly no secret that a large section of the country is having record heat but in some areas it's the heat and dry weather. Yesterday it rained for 10 minutes but it was hard enough to register 1/4" in my rain gauge. That was the first drop of rain at my house in 62 days! Now other places and parts of the state have had spotty showers in fact just last Thursday it rained up the road 5 miles away like cats and dogs! This morning I got up to rain about 30 minutes worth and this evening about 6:30 we got another hard shower for about 25 minutes, man it was so cool I just went out in it and stood there for a spell! 60% chance tomorrow and the next day and not only will it give me a break on the the water hose for maybe a couple of days it has dropped the temps some but we've been told it's short lived. The state as a whole is over 6" below normal rainfall and you can see it everywhere, brown fields, no hay, and trees shedding their leaves early trying to conserve water. Normal temps for here in July are always high 90's and 100's but this crap started in June this year, had high 90's in April! I'm ready for this! JR

Well I didn't say I wanted a blizzrd, just about a nice little 6" snow. You know the kind that keep you inside eating those home grown roasted peanuts with your warm house shoes on sipping on a hot cup of apple cider. Maybe a nice big persimmon cookie to go with it after you've had a big hot bowl of home canned soup made from the part of the garden that didn't melt in this came from hades heat! But it's easing a bit, got more rain yesterday afternoon and a chance of rain to the end of the week. They are just blown in and blow out thunder showers but any rain is welcome. This whole weather thing is a complete puzzle? When I was a kid it would rain fairly well up to mid June then from then to at least the end of August not a drop and cooler temps in late September and I have trick or treated in the snow in late October! Raining in July? First rain at my house since the first of May? heck I'm getting ready to start cleaning up, plowing and be ready for a fall crop planting, if I can find some late tomato plants I'm going to plant a few more of those! Speaking of rain, we have gone from record breaking heat to a solid week of scattered thunder storms and the prediction calls for more of the same thru next Wednesday. We seem to be having feast or famine here in NGA. It has either been too hot or too wet to ride much. If the rains keep up I may have to sell my scoots and buy a good boat.

If the rains keep up I may have to sell my scoots and buy a good boat. REALLY!?! Can I have first crack at the hack setup if you do? ;D Might be just the ticket for my son to ride with me. (Even if you won't learn to post a pix of it) I guess I'd have to trust an old dog like you to be true to your word that the setup is as good as you say. Let me know. M/C

Aint gonna happen, MC!!!! 8^) Just installed a new clutch yesterday in the tug (got stuck in WNC in some mud and burned it out. ), checked and tightened all mounting and connecting bolts and will test ride it today to be sure toe in is correct. My arthritic bum knee is making 3 wheeling a lot more attractive as time goes on. I use my IB Ruckus clone to get around the place now as walking a lot is not fun. But I am not going to quit riding.

We had 10 straight days of 90's and some 100+ with minimal rain. Everything is wilted. Dr Mom and I went to the pool a bunch and the water in the pool (big!) was 87 degrees. It's been too hot to do anything in the middle of the day. We finally got a good rain this morning.

87 degree pool water, heck that's almost like bath water! It's holding under 100F for the last two days yet still at 98F. The little blow in and blow out showers are still hitting all around, not had any here in the last two days but we went to Conway yesterday and we ran into one of those downpours that you can see way off in front of you, the kind that you can just see the rain coming down in torrents. You're in the sun one minute and a mile down the road you're in rain so hard you can barely see the road. Cloudy this morning, extreeeeeeemly humid and a chance of rain for next 3 days. Going to go start cleaning up my garden in some areas to get ready for fall planting, yes Fall! If we can just get through the rest of this month and hot as hell August it'll be creeping up on fall, you know, leaves falling, picking pumpkins, persimmons, pecans, planting cold crops and no more LAWN MOWING for a spell. That's the only thing bad about plenty of rain, time to mow the dang yard again. JR

Well it's been back in the 100's here again and what rain we did get only made the grass grow, got it all mowed and dragging water hoses again.
The tough part is people around me are still getting the downpour showers. Between here and the Arkansas River is large corn and soybean fields and the corn is pretty but the soybeans have been suffering but the last two days they have got drenched which has them standing up and green. Corn and soybean blooms are a real treat to my honeybees and they will travel that far to get them so I'm glad they are there. Have two hives at present and plan on getting two more. Love fresh honey.
Right now it's thundering and lightening so we'll see?

Today another miserable hot day, grass crunches as you walk. Watered again this morning for about 5 hours just moving around from one area to the next.
About 30 minutes ago it got dark and clouded up and over on the other side of the mountain it's lightening and you can see the rain coming down, actually smell it and the cool air blowing over but as of now not one drop on my side of the mountain.
Glad to see others get a cooling shower but sitting out on my front porch and not getting any of it is hard to bear!

Wow the next night got another shower but it's back to the old heat and dry! Set a new state record today of 111F.
My grandson's first football practice was today and they just went through light drills that started at 6:00. p.m. It was 108F when we came through town this evening at 5:45.
August will be here this Wednesday and it's always the hottest month here so there is no relief in sight. As I said before I'm ready for November!
