I have a BMS Pathfinder and rode it yesterday.
Today, the starter won't turn over. Checked the brake light and neither switch will cause it to light. Turn signals, horn and fuel gauge all work fine. I don't know if I have a broken wire, short or bad component but I don't know how or what to check.
Any ideas of where I should start?
Thanks, Tobey

Start by Checking your Fuses. I am betting you have a blown fuse.

First of all here is the BMS wiring diagram section and the Pathfinder is on the list. thescooterprofessor.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=50200g&action=display&thread=505Since your horn, signals and fuel gauge work then it's not a blown fuse. The diagram only shows one main fuse on the red wire from the battery to the key switch. Both brake handles are fed 12 volts from the key switch and when pressed they senf 12 volts to the start button. This scooter is different , most Chinese scooters send the ground through the starter button and the 12Vdc positive from the brakes to the starter relay but again not on this scooter. The starter is grounded on one side and the 12 Vdc positive again is sent from the starter button. You need to look at the following; Use a volt meter and make sure you have 12Vdc on the black wire to each brake light switch, if you have no voltage then you have more than likely a broke wire. We know the key switch is good or you would not have horn, etc. If you have 12Vdc to the switches check each one for voltage output on the yellow/green wire. If they are both passing voltage then the next step is to see if you are getting voltage to the start button and through it also. If all this checks out then you either have a broke wire from the start button (yellow/green) or a bad starter relay. Keep us informed we are here to help. JR

First off, thanks JR, your reply gave me the confidence to dive in.
I really hate these kinds of problems. In trying to diagnose the problem, I started by checking the voltage at the switches and in the process found the left switch had burned up, with the bad switch disconnected, the right switch works again. I looked to see if there were any loose leads but never found one. I just hope I don't get stranded somewhere. I will order a new switch and hope there is nothing else wrong.
Any suggestions for a good place to order replacement switch? Do any places have better quality?
Thanks, Tobey
